Wow!
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: Beautiful, old, historic and central to everything.
Cons: No cream for our coffee, but not a big deal.
Location: Eat at the Tapas Bar restaurant. Best chili relleno I've ever had. Steamed not deep fried. GO TO BUTCHART Gardens.. worth every penny!
Our customer service rep upgraded us to a beautiful corner room on the fifth floor for NO extra charge simply because we asked nicely! It was amazing with a view of the harbor. All staff that we encountered were helpful and friendly.

1st class in all aspects of what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Great position for walking to most of the attractions.

A Wonderful Get Away
Posted Jan 4, 2013
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful
Location: Located near many interesting sites which made walking tours very doable.
Our stay at the Empress could not have been better. The staff was gracious and helpful, our room was very quiet and comfortable, the food was delicious, and the High Tea was lovely. This get away was a memory we will never forget.

Dissappointing, expensive,not a Fairmont Standard
Posted Jan 2, 2013
Location: Location is excellent.
I have stayed at other fairmont hotels, and you were made to feel special, like you were the only guest in the hotel. at the empress the staff were indifferent, and I felt like you were being nickeled and dimed. example local phone calls were 2.00 each. Parking was an extra fee, We were going to do high tea, but it was $65.00 per person, which was excessive. Even the Macdonald hotels was not that much.

Fairmont Empress Victoria
Posted Jan 6, 2013
The Empress hotel in Victoria has an ideal location for those wanting to be close by the downtown shopping and whale watching excursions. The only negative I would say about this property is the room I stayed in was right above the sidewalk (I was on the mezzanine level) and I found it very difficult to get a good nights sleep. The area right outside my window seemed to be an area where delivery trucks stop and I found that to be disruptive. However, that being said I still found the property to be lovely and the staff were very courteous and helpful.

Expensive for what they offer.
Posted Jan 1, 2013
Pros: Swimming pool
Cons: No Wifi, hot water not very hot.
Location: Good location, but expensive parking fees. $32 for one night stay. Never again.
There are much nicer hotels to stay in around Victoria which are also cheaper. Beds were very comfortable though. Swimming pool and gym nice. No free internet which I think is really bad, as my son said even McDonalds give you free WiFi.

Disappointing experience
Posted Jan 26, 2013
Pros: Afternoon tea.
We reserved a room with a special 20% winter discount. We were assigned a tiny room on the 6th floor, with slanted walls. The bed was confirmed a king size and it was really barely wide enough for 2 people. It was a nice crisp spring day, yet the room was so hot that we opened the window and used the fan to get some air in. Since it was too loud to sleep with the window open we covered only with a sheet and still it was to warm to sleep comfortably. Furniture is very tired and beat up and would benefit from some sanding and varnishing. The room felt as if in the grand old days it served as quarters for hired help and nowadays is dumped on the overnight tourists that are not coming back anyway. There were dirt spots on the outside of the bathtub and a long dark hair on the inside. The water glasses were spotty and giving them the benefit of the doubt I will assume it was dried water and not somebody elses old drink. This is supposed to be the Grand Dame of canadian hospitality - but I have felt a lot more welcome and pampered in plain B&B's during a BC road trip.
