well located once you know!

Pros: location, breakfast and room size.
Cons: See above.
Location: Near Karlsplatz and many of the major tourist sights, as well as trams.
This is an interesting hotel with strengths and weaknesses. Access is via a simple code which sometimes needed repetition (they are addressing this) and don't have staff available 24/7. The hotel is extremely well located just a few minutes from the Opera etc but it was not obvious on arrival by taxi where it was and I and others headed the wrong way on the nearby tram! I have mentioned this to staff as well. The hotel is quite small: my bedroom was spacious but bathroom was very cramped. Breakfast was excellent and overall it was very good value. I suspect good for couples but not families with children.

Wonderful

exceeded our expectations. This is more like an upmarket B&B than a hotel. Took a taxi with family of 4 from airport for about €40 - very easy. Quad room was very comfortable even for the 2 teenagers 14 and 16. Amazing pressure in shower. Location was easy for trams and underground. Staff were always helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was good- Did not book it thinking we might go to local cafes but it was easier. Overall very happy.

The Hotel was quaint and clean. The hotel staff was suburb, very helpful and friendly. Quality for the room cost was excellent. Close enough for walking to Opera House and other downtown tourist attractions. Fast and easy walk to the underground.

Really good stay

I find people in Vienna generally very nice and friendly, and this is especially true at the Saint Shermin Hotel. The staff had been very nice and helpful, welcomed us with tea and cookies while we wait for the room to be ready. The rooms are spacious and modern, beds are really comfortable. Location is great as it is only a stone throw from the Naschmarkt and Karlsplatz metro. Town centre is walking distance, or you can easily travel around with their city bike which was great. We were given extra cookies and bottled water at our check-out, which was a very kind gesture. All in all a great experience.

Fantastic service

Everything was perfect. A great location - only 5 minutes walk from the hotel to vienna state opera house. The breakfast was great. The receptionist was very friendly. And the room was trendy, something to tell about. Recently refurbished. Instead of a desk phone, there was the mobile phone provided for use :) Modern, arty style. We didn't have any problems with the door code. Recommended.

Affordable, cute and comfy

We were very impressed by hotel Shermin. It was easy to find, close to transport and an easy walk into the city center. We stayed in a room for three people which was spacious, clean and lovely with modern decor and nice bathroom. There is good security into the reception area after hours and the staff were friendly, happy to help and very nice. The included buffet breakfast was great with lots of selection. We were pleasantly surprised for the price of the room. We would definitely stay here again.

The Shermin was very comfortable -it is more like a B&B than a hotel. The desk is not staffed at all hours and the hotel is one floor of an apartment building. Having said that, it was very comfortable, staff were attentive, the hotel is in a great location and I enjoyed my stay. I would certainly stay there again.

Hotel Shermin, Vienna - is it right for you?

Posted Oct 22, 2011 on Hotels.com
Hotel Pension Shermin is a mixed bag. We stayed for 4 days and, if asked whether to recommend it or not, would say it depends on what you want from a budget hotel. It is just one floor within an apartment building, and runs mostly on an honesty basis, being staffed for part of the morning and part of the afternoon. Normally the person on reception also prepares and cleans up breakfasts in the tiny dining area, which can lead to bottlenecks and some variation in what is available for breakfast. Breakfast is entirely cold food, although one of the girls covering two breakfasts produced boiled eggs. The small size and long thin shape of the dining area means that not all guests can be accommodated at peak times. The room we occupied opened onto a dark inner courtyard, but had a ceiling fan to compensate for the lack of airconditioning. Opening the windows produced some ventilation at the cost of privacy and noise from other apartments. The furnishings were a bit tired and older, but functioned perfectly. These oddities apart, the hotel is within walking distance of almost all of central Vienna, including the Naschmarkt, so unless you are an avid explorer of the outskirts, a travel pass/city pass isn't really necessary, so take all of these into account (and the price).

Reasonable for the price

Great location close to the subway and within five minutes Naschet Market, 15 minutes to cathedral. Nice breakfast buffet. Downsides, no one is at the front desk from noon to 5 pm. No elevator so be prepared to carry your bag up a flight of stairs.
