The hotel was very clean and the front desk staffing were very friendly and accommodating. I would say the only thing lacking was that their was no shampoo or conditioner in the suite bathroom. But overall, a good hotel.

We were here for my daughter's birthday and the team sent a cake to our room, it made us feel very special. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the pool was lovely as was our stay.

Waited over20 minutes at check in only one poor girl behind counter queue of about 12 people. Balcony rail rusty, air con rusty.Pool out of use for 2 days. Ordered monitors and pina colada, took 20 mins to arrive costing 15euros and hopelessly wrong, no mint

This hotel is the largest on the island by far and seems out of scale with the rest of the island architecture. The building is a little dated and in need of some repairs and a facelift, but overall it met our needs for our stay. There are huge floor to ceiling windows/doors in the rooms that open to a balcony overlooking the farmland below the hotel and ocean beyond. The sun makes the rooms really hot in the afternoon (and we were visiting in the winter!) so it is nice to be able to open the doors and get a cool sea breeze. We were traveling with a small child so the downside to opening the doors was the balcony has large openings under the railing (almost a foot of open space) and we had to be super vigilant that the child didn't get close to the edge. There is an outdoor pool and a jacuzzi in the gym adjacent to the hotel. Use of the jacuzzi is included for hotel guests and the gym can be used for a small daily fee.

It may have been a very property at one time, but now it's dated. For example the round CRT televisions in 2019 is very for a hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The property seemed clean, my room was clean. But the is visible water damage on many walls and hall carpets, the lights in the lobby are missing some parts. There was no hot water, I took lukewarm showers for the week I stayed there.

Hotel Colombo is a little outside Vila de Porto which makes it inconvenient if you don't have a car. It is very plain and expensive for what it is. I only stayed there because there were no other rooms left on the island.

Okay; If you have to......
Gym closed. Cockroaches in the air conditioner. Bed solid foam. Fridge in room produced noise of a motorbike on tickover. On the positive, all staff were extremely nice and helpful.

A great stay
We had a very enjoyable stay at the Hotel Columbo. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The lady who makes the cakes made us a special birthday cake which we all agreed was superb. The cakes at breakfast were also fantastic (made by the same very talented lady). There was also fresh fresh fruit salad and a great buffet for breakfast. We were out late all day and very nice to come back to meals by room service in our apartment rooms which were very good value. Overall highly recommended.

AC DOESN'T COOL ROOM AT ALL. OUR FAMILY HAD TO SLEEP ALL IN ONE ROOM Where THE AC WAS AS IT DIDN'T COOL THE ENTIRE APARTMENT. STAFF CAME IN TO REVIEW AND SAID THATS HOW ALL ROOMS ARE. I had stayed at this hotel in 2016 and this wasn't an issue. Don't stay in room 218.

Not what i expected
This hotel looked really nice on the website but we discovered this to be a bit misleading when we arrived at the property as it was a bit run down. Having said that, the room was nice, clean comfortable, the pool was large, the ocean view was nice, location was fine for us, and the breakfast buffet was very good. However, the tv was an old clunker, there was no kleenex i had to buy my own, and the food at the bar was lousy. Overall the hotel accommodation was fine. I would consider this a 3 star hotel though.

Ugly, dirty, unkept "hotel." Do NOT stay here
I rarely write an overwhelming negative review but this Hotel easily deserves it. The one positive thing was the friendly staff. Besides that, I wouldn't recommend this "hotel." I don't understand how it was rated with 4 stars. It barely deserves one. The photos online are misleading The place looks more like a rundown industrial prison. The hotel and rooms are filled with rust, water damaged furniture, broken light fixtures, and exposed wire. The beds were decent ignored you like a firm mattress. They don't offer bottled liquid soap or shampoo. Everything is an upcharge like the Lock for the safe and the gym. The "cleaning" of rooms consists of replacing towels but not much more. Be careful of crickets in your room keeping you awake. I question how Hotel.com vetted this hotel. I would NOT recommend this place to say the least.

Poor quality, poor performance, highly disappointe
Where do I start? The photos are completely deceiving. The hotel has not been maintained and is in extremely poor shape. It's rated as a 4 star hotel, I barely would give it one. Rugs, Carpets, furniture, walls, light fixtures.... all BROKEN or not working in some way. The rooms were damaged by water and uncomfortable at best. Crickets in the rooms. Cockroaches in the driveway. The linens were stained. The restaurant was barely open. The bar and open area was overwhelmed due to lack of people to serve. Everyone at the hotel was hard working, there just weren't enough and the hotel honestly looks like a prison and not a hotel. I absolutely would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The gym is not free. Highly disappointed and I'm questioning my loyalty to hotels.com based on the deceiving nature of the photos and reviews.

worst stay ever
We only stay for 2 nights but when we asked the staff for any help they where not very friendly to answer any question.. when one of our friend couple got sick she asked for a special request.... which was chicken soup, the response was not profession. They did not even they to ask kitchen staff instead brush us of and told us there was no chicken available. For the love of god since when we have shortage of chickens in azores anyways this is the first hotel we ever got treated that way so we moved to other more professional accomation which I might add was alo more respected in our eyes.

Happily Exhausted
The entire island is immaculate! The hotel and room was no exception. The room was well sized, the beds were a bit hard but if you enjoy the islands to the fullest, you collapse happy with exhaustion. I'll definitely stay at the Hotel Colombo again.

Good stay
Quiet hotel on the outskirts of town. Clean and comfortable but a little dated, the breakfast was good enough to set this boy up for a day's hiking. The restaraunt food was enjoyable and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was about 30 minutes walk to the harbour.

We were pleasantly surprised by Hotel Colombo. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was huge, if a little hard.There was good variety for breakfast, although the juices were a little weak./ Overall, a very pleasant hotel with helpful staff.

Perfectly acceptable hotel
Stayed two nights in Sept 2014 - it isn't right in Vila do Porto, so is a 20-30 min walk into town or a $7-8 EUR cab ride. The hotel was pretty standard for what we encountered in the Azores - clean and well maintained buildings. Breakfast was included and they had enough options that my vegan friend didn't go hungry, pretty similar to what we experienced at all the hotels we stayed at on four of the Azorean islands we visited - we'd definitely stay there again. Front desk staff we spoke with were helpful and friendly - assisted with general information, arranging a taxi tour, bus schedules and storing our luggage after check out.

It was clean and fitted our needs for this trip. There are not many choices for hotel on this small island. This hotel was I little run down with water stains on the walls in the hallways and needs a lot of repairs
