Super place for any visit
Andreas and his wife are excellent hosts. Caring, passionate and dedicated. Ready to help with any issue. The entire place has a "home" feel to it, the atmosphere is super friendly, the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Excellent food and drinks. Highly recommend!

What a great find. Nice quiet hotel with a pool in amongst the apple orchards in the valley. The host and his wife were fantastic and very accommodating. Great food at the hotel and also a nice pizza restaurant a few min walk away. Would definitely recommend and will surely stay there again

Brilliant service by the pool, the bar and breakfast. The pool was a welcome refreshment after a week of hiking across the alps and the hotel staff were amazing. Breakfast was full of local delicacies and the coffee was servced individually, which was great after a week of filter coffee in Germany/Austria.

Best host and great location
Super friendly host and really neat location for exploiting the area by foot or car. Definitely recommend visiting and using Sparerhof as your base

Nice little hotel!
This is a nice little hotel. I had a large room, the decor was a bit outdated, but it was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Plenty of TV Stations. Staff was very nice and courteous and breakfast was very tasty. I would definitely stay there again!

It's really a 6 score across the board. :D
Two things make the Hotel Sparerhof: staff and location. Honestly, they are the nicest family and go out of their way to recommend things and make your stay comfortable. This is 10' from Merano, without the Merano prices and parking madness. Wine country is also about 10' the other direction. It's ideal and you should go! :)

A real gem would reccomend for work or leisure +++
We found this hotel to be friendly, comfortable and a welcome change from the bigger chain hotels we normally stay in on business trips. It is very conveniently situated for Bolzano and you can be there in 5-10 mins by car but I believe there are other transport links (train/bus). The food in the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced and I believe there are other restaurants nearby. The rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable. The staff speak perfect English and are willing to help with any queries you have. The surrounding area is stunning and I will be returning for a holiday next year. There is also a lovely swimming pool and bikes free to use. The best Cappuccino I had on my trip!

A quiet charming hotel in the rustic Italian Alps
A beautiful little hotel nestled in a rustic Alpine town. Charming lobby, bar and restaurant. Gracious friendly staff...family owned and operated. Provided us with very courteous service with personal attention and help with tourist information and restaurants. A place we will certainly hope to stay in the next time we return to the Merano area.

Amazing hotel with superb hosts
The hotel owners were friendly, smart, and fun. They are perfectly suited to this calling! The swimming pool was refreshing, they let me use the computer when my smartphone wasn't working, and the room itself was comfortable. What was most memorable was the style of the outdoor patio where we had dinner--a pergola, flowers everywhere, and a fine meal with excellent wines that were produced locally. The dining room where we had breakfast was sophisticated--the pictures on the wall, the curtains, the furniture--all very classy and the breakfast buffet had many delicious things to choose from. It was a totally wonderful experience.

We stayed at Hotel Sparerhof for few nights and loved the place. The hotel has character and the people are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is good and the free bikes were really cool, quite a few bike paths in the area. The location is good, 5 min walk from the train station and lovely surroundings.

Going the extra mile service
We stayed at the Hotel Sparerhof for two nights on our way to North East Italy from France. The hotel is in a convenient location in between Merano and Bolzano and great as a base for exploring the surrounding area. Andreas was a truly excellent host and went out of his way to book us a tour of the local winery (Cantina Terlano - highly recommended!) driving us there and back. We ended up eating here on both nights as the food is truly excellent - don't bother eating outside of the hotel! There is a lovely pool outside as well. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Thank you again to Andreas and his family for a memorable stay.

Great hospitality. Family owned and run hotel. Attention to detail was second to none. Restaurant offered great food, try the menu of the day. Lots of different areas to sit. One of us needed to see a doctor and Andre had this organised within a couple of hours, onsite visit, and then drove us to terlano to the chemist. You don't get that kind of service at many places. Bikes were available for us to use and were in very good condition. This area has a mild climate but we struck a very hot week.... 35 degrees for several days. It would have been good had there been a fan in the room. Would recommend this hotel to those who want to be out of the busy towns or cities. Access by train and bus was easy. Having stayed in nearly 20 three and four star hotels over the course of six weeks, this place ranks amongst the best.

Comfortable Family Run Hotel
We found the Hotel Sparerhof a very comfortable hotel. The owner, his wife, his father and staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. When I needed help in bringing in our heavy luggage they insisted that one of there staff do it. The room was bright, airy, clean and large. The breakfast buffet was expansive and delicious. Location was close to the Dolomites and in the apply orchards. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Wonderful, friendly hosts
The Sparer family offered a friendly environment with personal attention. It was a pleasure to stay here and have a fine, relaxing meal following a day of hiking and sight seeing. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return to this area, which we will.

A treasure in the Tyrol
The Sparerhof has several outstanding features. Foremost amongst these is the high level of personal service offered by the hosts Andreas and Gabi and Andreas' lovely parents. The cuisine is exceptional. The evening meal was stunning and breakfast was a delight. There is an excellent bar, a lovely pool area and plenty of shady nooks. So why is this a 3 star property? There can only be two reasons. The hotel is located in a pretty, South Tyrolean village so there are no town attractions on the doorstep. Proximity to the highway and a train station make it ideal for the business traveller. The tourist can enjoy the delights of Bolzano and Merlano as well as the spectacular mountain scenery. The rooms are small but adequate. They do, however, lack the refinements required of the higher rating. Install ceiling fans, Andreas, and I will give you an extra star. We had a great stay and will try to find a way to steal a weekend for the winter markets.

A very nice family run small hotel, Andreas the owner is a brilliant fellow and the food, cooked my his wife i suspect, was absolutely gorgeous. Just off the autoroute, the alps on your doorstep, this is a great staging point for exploring the area, it even has a lovely wee smimming pool. Whats not to like?

This hotel is as-advertised; clean and worth it. It's about 10 minutes from Bolzano and tonly 1 minute away from freeway. They speak English, Italian and German there. There's ample dining in the area and a grocery store only 1 min walk away. Only negative is the beds are very firm. Overall a good deal.

Lovely stay
Myself and my girlfriend stayed here as there was nowhere available in Bolzano, and I'm glad we did. we had a wonderful warm welcome and shown all the hotels excellent facilities. Following a quick bite to eat, prepared by the owner we went for a short walk up to a beautiful waterfall to stretch our legs, although the hotel would also have lent us bikes if we wanted. The view from our room was incredible and the room itself was very comfortable. The proprietors were extremely hospitable and even brought out a complete breakfast for us from the kitchens after we got up too late in the morning, which I greatly appreciated. They also gave us a free beer in the evening! This was a lovely stay in a very nice spot and I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

I picked this hotel largely because of the glowing reviews that it got on this website, and they weren't wrong. The hotel is bright, clean, and lovely, with a charming little restaurant, bar, garden, and pool, in a quiet town just off the train halfway between Bolzano and Merano. The real high point, though, is the staff. Everyone was so kind and helpful. I concur with all of the other good things that people have said. This one is worth the little trip off of the beaten path.

A memorable vacation
We loved our stay at Sparerhof! We stayed for two nights, and despite our intentions of testing some local restaurants, we ended up eating at the hotel both nights, and the meals were excellent! The pasta is fresh and made in the house, superb vegetables and meats and fish, and a true espresso coffee...what else do you need? The room was at the second floor, very large with plenty of space in the wardrobe to accommodate a longer stay as well. The bathroom was spotless clean and very large too. The windows opened to the most breathtaking panorama of the mountains...just what you want to see when you get up :) The hosts were so very helpful and kind, not to mention very entertaining - it helped that they are all multilingual there, so we could switch all the time between Italian, English and German. If we are going back to the Stelvio Pass (what a road!) this is the hotel we're going to stay again!

When originally booking this flight, me, my wife, and son were returning from Venice going back to Germany, when my wife thought it'd be really nice to stay overnight and have breakfast with the beautiful mountains and apple orchards, and it was. It was everything we imagined it but the staff ruined it. Although we notified them ahead of time, they gave away our infant bed. we werent allowed to eat breakfast on the patio 2 minutes past checkout and the gentlemen called and was very persistent that we leave immediately because they dont want to pay the cleaning staff more money.

Our stop in this area was most enjoyable made more so by the hotel owners and staff. This property is easily accessible from the train and also offers bicycles which was a fantastic treat. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Two Apple computers in the lobby are a nice convenience for looking up area information. We were provided great recommendations touring about the area. Highly recommend!

A fantastic little hotel just outside Bolzano. Peaceful and quiet. Perfect for visiting the town and surrounding mountains - by car or near-by train. Owner very cheerful and helpful, and multilingual. In the same building there is a comfy little bar for relaxing after a day of hiking or Ötzi-visiting. Do have your dinners here if you're staying in the area! We'd say it is worth visiting here just to eat! Absolutely marvelous food - and we are quite picky.... Our little girl is even more picky, but there were no problems in producing dishes that even she enjoyed thoroughly. Overall, very highly recommended - both hotel and restaurant. We will return, if our travels bring us to South Tyrol.

A place in the hills
I would rate this hotel at 4.5 if the system allowed it - in all the 4's I have listed above. The hills and mountains around the area are fantastic. Had a magnificent lunch in one of the villages up high. It was easy to find too. had a great pool, 3 lovely outdoor dining areas and a great breakfast. The dining rooms were well set up and the wine selection excellent. The food was good but selection for my needs was a bit limited since I can not eat fish.

An Experience to Enjoy
My wife and I visited Hotel Sparerhof on a one night stopover during our silver wedding anniversary motorcycle tour, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience. Our Host, Andreas Sparer, is a real live-wire, making jokes and generally engaging with guests, he speaks 4 languages, his personal attention was most welcome, his staff were equally attentive. He offered to lock our motorcycle away safely overnight, but to be fair, I don't think there would be any problem with leaving it in the car park with the keys is, it is such a lovely setting. The room was impeccably clean, the only reason I haven't given the room 5 stars is because the pillows were not great, although we probably could have asked for more had we thought. The food. Ah! The FOOD! Home made, using the local in season produce, was superbly cooked and presented, and at only 19 euro for a 4 course fixed menu, was also super value. The wine which we let the staff choose was also excellent. I would have no hesitation in returning to Sparerhof, indeed, we met one of the hotels regulars, a very charming German lady who has been going there for over 40 years and loves it every time. Not many hotels have guests like that these days!
