This hotel is basic, but ok. Breakfast was good, but room was cold with a barely adequate heater in Winter, but not a major problem. Young lady on reception appeared to be new and a little unsure of how to deal with check in, so refused my offer to pay on arrival, which I have done at previous hotels in Chile. A few hours later I was leaving to go out so paid a man, who appeared to be the manager, in cash, with the young lady present. Chatted briefly and they kindly helped me with directions. The next morning another man asked me for payment, whilst the same young lady was in attendance. My payment of the last night didn't appear to have been on the system, and more unbelievably the young lady didn't seem to remember the transaction taking place, even though I am the only English person I have seen at the place and there can have been no more than 10 people staying there in total! I politely reminded the young lady that she had been there, but she appeared not to remember even when I recounted the conversation about directions. The man eventually accepted what I was saying, but no apology was forthcoming, I don't think I was believed at all, and made to feel like a thief. There is plenty of choice of hotel in Valparaiso, especially in this very pleasant area, so I would recommend trying another hotel, but pay when you check out so as to avoid any confusion.
