Receptionists were friendly and accomodating. View from our room window was beautiful. However, toilet seat was falling apart, very little toilet paper, towels were so old.

Nice hotel, excelent service. at the top of Cerro Alegre don Claudio received us and accomodate us in a very nice room, very clean with a superb view of Valparaiso. Breakfast is very good youalmost feel at home with a good variety of choices.

The staff and owner of Sutherland House could not have been nicer or more accommodating to us (a party of six). They gave us directions & maps, recommended good restaurants, and gave us the number for a reliable taxi driver. Lovely small boutique hotel.

Wonderful room with very comfortable bed,welcome glass of sparkling wine,very helpful,parking available,good breakfast included,and a less than 1km walk from the classic Valparaiso painted walls,restaurants and bars:1 of 2 nights was a little noisy,but then,it’s Valparaiso!

Terrific spot. Great views. Friendly accommodating staff and owner. Some English. Nice breakfast. Rooms small but we had a huge balcony. Just know, that like all Valparisio, there are stairs to climb. Walking distance to great restaurants and convenient bus service to other areas. Bus stops right in front of the hotel.

Ideal for a short stay in Valparaiso
Ideal location with lovely views and big rooms. Very good and friendly personal service and excellent breakfast. If you have a car also has useful private parking a big plus in Valparaiso.

Beautiful view of the harbor and great location
The Hotel Sutherland was very beautifully restored and maintained. The views of the city and harbor are very good. It is also close to the Pablo Neruda Museum.

Fabulous stay, fabulous location, fabulous staff.
Loved our stay at Sutherland House, fantastic location, a short walk to Alegre & Concepcion area with its gorgeous buildings, numerous cafes & restaurants. Bus right outside the door, both times we caught the bus someone accompanied us even though we were very happy with the comprehensive directions they gave us. Only10min bus ride to town & 20 mins to Vina del Mar. We had early bus trip next morning, Claudio was very happy to get up and give us an early breakfast. The view from our room on top floor was outstanding. Special thank you to Vanessa, outstanding service, thank you.

Five star service at a three star hotel
This lovely family-operated hotel in the hills of Valparaiso was a lovely place to stay. The staff were wonderful and the room was very comfortable. Because it's back in the hills, it is a steep climb to get there but well worth it for the views. And there are very few places in Valparaiso that don't require some stairs anyway.

Great option in Valparaiso, Recommended
Very nice staff, conveniently located pretty close to main tourist area for getting a feel for Valparaiso and it's murals. Great view from our room. Note that parking is a bit tight and up a steep drive, but also behind a locked gate. They helped shuffle cars around so we could get out to head to the airport. Be aware that there are a lot of steps and a steep driveway to climb, in case that might be a physical concern for you. Breakfast was one of the best I had at any hotel I stayed in Chile.

Old ,sweat and charming hotel at the best location on the hills of Valparaiso!Fabulous staff,excellent service and heavenly view from a room.Located on the bus route so going up and down the hills is not a torture. Will strongly recommend!!!

Lovely homely place to stay with fabulous views
Wonderful, friendly staff that went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at home! Would highly recommend this as an incredibly lovely place to stay - it's q bit higher up on the hill but not far to walk, and even easier if you prefer to take the bus (which comes very often, is cheap and very convenient).

Amazing Views
We had a wonderful stay at Sutherland. The staff was very friendly and provided us with a welcome drink and advice to tour the city. The hotel is higher up so expect a lot of walking just to get to the hotel, and lots of stairs to get into it. But the payoffs are worth it. Beautiful views from every room. I just wish they could do something about the neighbors rooster...

A good place to stay.
Have just spent 2 nights there, the staff (we were met by Plillip) were very accommodating and pleasant. Plenty of local knowledge, helpful and a friendly place to stay. We were given an upstairs room with a balcony and view through to the ocean. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again if we returned.

Nice view with sterways
The hotel is in a quiet neigborhood, with great Valparaiso view. The breakfast was great and the staff was very nice. The only issue to mention is you have to climbe 68 steps on the stairways to get from the street to the hall. So if you have problems with that this is not your hotel. For young people, not an issue.

A great way to experience Valparaiso
A friend and I each spent one night at Sutherland House in advance of a 13-day South American cruise. We selected the hotel based on positive reviews and price and I must say I was not disappointed. Claudio and Berta were perfect hosts and the view of Valparaiso from every room is incredible. From a welcoming glass of champagne to help with our heavy luggage getting up the many steps to this high-on-a-hill hotel -- we loved our stay. My traveling companion speaks Spanish and got a lot of information from owner Claudio about the history of the building (his former home) and the history of Valparaiso. We really enjoyed our stay.

Magnificent View
Paradise on a hillside with a million dollar view. This boutique hotel in a restored home in the historic neighborhood of Cerro Alegre is quite unique and certainly met our expectations. The service was exceptional.

Amazing Views
We decided to pay a little more for the room on the corner, and the views were amazing. (We were accidentally placed in the room next door and didn't notice because the view was amazing as well, it was just a little smaller and had the one wall of windows.) The front desk was extremely friendly, helpful with suggestions, and offered us a glass of champagne each evening. Breakfast was a typical Chilean hotel breakfast, we had no problem parking out front on the street, and we found the neighborhood safe and easy to walk down to the shops and restaurants we wanted to go to. It's a hike to get up to the hotel, but that's true of any place in Valparaiso. We loved it!

Wonderful Stay. Great Staff and Owner. VIEW !!
We (two couples) loved our stay at Sutherland House. The rooms were super clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent. The free wi-fi worked perfectly. The owner and staff could not do enough for us and the views from the room were tremendous!! You do need to be aware that the hotel is a 10-15 min walk from from the main tourist area and the walk back is largely uphill. There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity so be prepared to walk or take a cab (which they will gladly call for you). Also there are 104 steps from the street entrance to the 3rd floor where our rooms were. Despite this (we actually liked the walks) we would book here again with out hesitation.

Sutherland House in Valparaiso, Chile
Beautiful old, refurbished home high on hillside with a magnificent view of the Bay. Owners made us feel like family. The only drawback is the numerous stairs that have to be climbed to access the house and possibly your room.

Great B & B but with lots of stairs
This is a great place to stay if you like B & Bs but be prepared to climb a lot of stairs. The view over the bay is stunning but I would have preferred to be closer to downtown - a 15 minutes walk will take you to busy Valparaiso harbor but the walk back is a lot longer, going up all those hills.

Wonderful experience
This small little B&B, hotel is a gem; -wonderful location in the hills above the city, near fine little restaurants and art gallaries and small shops. The staff was always helpful in any way they could be.

Sutherland hotel
This is a great little hotel high in the hills (cerro Alegre) in Valparaiso. We had a fantastic view of the city and bay from our room and particularly enjoyed watching the sunrise over the city without even having to get out of bed. Sometimes the pictures online overstate the reality, but not so here. The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly, and spoke English quite well. It is in a good neighborhood although it is a bit of a walk to the resturants. There are many steps to get to the hotel, so that might be a problem for some. But Valparaiso is nothing but hills and steps, so if that's not for you, staying in Vina Del Mar might be a better option. But then you would miss out on the great views and funky character of Valparaiso.

Se puede recomendar
Todo bien, personal muy amable, todo muy limpio, tranquilo. Cercano a muchos lugares de interés y restaurantes. Hay estacionamiento, pero reducido, es necesario dejar llaves para acomodar autos. El desayuno bueno, hay de todo un poco. Sugiero poner un vaso y un espejo en la habitación.

Pieza en deterioro. Baños sin higienizar. Desayuno pobre. El valor wxcelsvamte ñaro para sólo pagar l vista. Desmerece la limpieza, la cama. Las fotos son engañadoras.

Vue féerique sur la ville et près du quartier sympa. Ne mérite pas son prix annoncé. Salle de bain dans un très mauvais état Literie excellente
