I can't praise the Conservatorium enough. The hotel is a wonderful mix of the old and new; everywhere one looks there is the most wonderful aesthetically pleasing detail. The staff was pleasant and helpful; at one point, i left my credit card in one of the exquisite jewelry stores on the 1st floor - the front desk called me within two minutes to let me know they had it.
I had a duplex, and the stairs were the only thing with which other travelers might have a bit of a problem, especially if they are not in the best of health, Otherwise, it will be a familiar enough experience to anyone used to a dutch trap. The room itself was spotless and white, the beds comfortable; there were automatic blackout shades that effortlessly shut out the sun that doesn't go down until 10:00 this time of year. Turn down service shuts these for you, but they are easy to operate. Great toiletries in the bathroom; complimentary water, fruit, and coffee.
Breakfast in the room was served timely and fresh and with the most gracious service. I might suggest the "healthy choice," which I had two mornings in a row. I did not dine in any of the hotel restaurants though so I cannot rate these. They are numerous dining options in this part of the city as well, and store after store of fine men's (and women's) fashion.

The hotel was close to the museums and near a nice park. The hotel staff was very friendly. Our room was just behind the reception area so it was a bit noisy but there was a nice view of the garden. The beds were too soft to our taste and pillows were too airy, but other than that rooms were good.

"An excellent location and an unpretentious hotel"
The Hotel de Filosoof is in an excellent location in Amsterdam, being adjacent to the Vondelpark, across which a short walk will get you to the Museumplein and other central parts of the city quickly and with some worthwhile exercise. There are other hotels closer in to the centre of Amsterdam, around Dam Square, for example, but while some are grand and expensive, others are shabby and noisy. By contrast the Filosoof is quiet but, as I say, well positioned.
It is however rather a plain hotel and will not suit lovers of luxury, nor those with any kind of mobility difficulty. The steps at the front door are something of a challenge, and while there is an elevator inside the building, the staircase to the various floors is like a curved version of the north face of the Eiger.

Our room was ready a few hours ahead of time which was great after a 24 hour flight. Staff were very helpful with any requests and were knowledgeable about the area and Amsterdam itself. We took the tram into the centre of Amsterdam to explore as well as using the bus to get out of town to see such sights as Foraholland Flower Auction House and Amstelpark to explore the gardens.

There were a few hiccups during my stay like malfunction of the air conditioner and no hot water with the shower. Fortunately, all staffs are friendly and helpful and did fix these problems within a day of our reporting of those failures. The room is clean, mattress is comfortable and wifi is quite stable during my 5nights stay. Note that the bathroom only has limited counter space and the shower unit has no holders for personal amenities at all.
The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's 5min. walk to major Tram station which will take you to city centre or the Central Train Station in only 15-20min. If you are museum lovers, it's only 10min. walk to the Rijks, VanGough, Stedelijk museums.

As its name suggests, Museum suites is close by the Stedelijk, the van Gogh and the Rijk Museums and also the Concertgebouw. It is also in comfortable walking distance of the many art galleries, and several famous Amsterdam sites. The rooms are spacious in relation to the price and an ample breakfast is available for a reasonable add on price. The staff is kind and knowledgeable. My only hesitation in praising it this highly is fear that it might become so popular that a room will be unavailable next time i visit Amsterdam.

This large grassy space is a great place to escape the bustle of the city. In summer Amsterdammers come here to stroll, jog, roller-skate, sunbathe, listen to free concerts and watch the buskers and children’s entertainers. The Nederlands Filmmuseum is a very popular cinema (free outdoor screenings in summer) with an excellent café restaurant. The Hollandse Manege is a charming period building and home to the Dutch Riding School.
