Accommodating Staff

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Clean room, great staff
My original reservation was for a king bed, single occupant. At the last minute, my friend decided to join me. We did not call ahead to change the reservation, but the front desk staff was more than willing to accommodate our change. They were professional, and very pleasant. Our stay was very nice.

Stopover on way to vacation turns out best part

Posted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: Old style, grand - food and room good
Location: two colleges, wine retailers
Great place - old hotel from the 1800's, great rooms, good food, free real breakfast. Quiet town, location of hotel is blocks from wine merchants, restaurants, neat old buildings. Our overnight stop was so nice, we cut short our stay in Spokane and Coeur D' alene, and stayed another night on the way back. It is out of the way, but if wine is one of your passions, here is a place to visit.

The hotel is great. The Marc restaurant was excellent and the vineyard Lounge was a real oasis. The staff members were all friendly and accommodating. We'll be going back.

Gorgeous old hotel, centrally located.

Pros: Location.
Location: Wine tasting, wine tasting, wine tasting. Golf. Lovely restaurants nearby.
Spent evening in Walla Walla, decided to stay at hotel. It is well maintained, the rooms are comfortable, and the complimentary breakfast buffet was an unexpected (and convenient) treat.

Best hotel in wine region

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Location: Most folks we know go to Walla Walla for wine tasting, and there are tasting rooms for top Washington wineries within walking distance of the hotel.
We had been traveling in Eastern Oregon for several days, staying in chain hotels (e.g. Holiday Inn Express) which were quite adequate for our needs at the time, but for the same price as they charged, the Marcus Whitman was a completely different experience: luxurious, stemmed wine glasses and ceramic coffee cups in the room, elegant large well-appointed room, fluffy bathrobes in the closet, fabulous hot buffet breakfast in the lovely dining room. The food was excellent, as was the service. I wouldn't recommend staying anywhere else in or around Walla Walla.

worst room in a good hotel???

Posted Jul 5, 2014
I wanted to stay at the Whitman, a classy old hotel, to enjoy a bit of history and the elegance of years gone by. Unfortunately I was given a room in the new annex, part of their convention center, and not within the original building. While the main hotel public areas (lobby, lounge, etc) were gorgeous and just what I'd expected, the 70s-era annex rooms were dark and poorly laid-out with very small, cramped bathrooms. I would never recommend one of these disappointingly underwhelming rooms but, based on the public areas and the very nice staff, I would still consider a room in the main hotel building.

Ideal location

Posted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location
Cons: Fresh fruit with breakfast
Location: Wineries! Lots of them!
Located in the heart of downtown Walla Walla and walking distance to many of the wineries and college was great. I wish we had stayed in the older main part of the hotel. We were in the extension which was nice, but I heard the older part of the hotel has bigger rooms. I bet if we had booked through the hotel directly, we would have gotten one of those rooms. The rate included breakfast, which was very good. I wish they had fresh fruit like melon, berries, etc. however, the homemade yogurt and granola was awesome! Overall, great experience!

Nice hotel in a very nice downtown

Posted Jun 22, 2014
Pros: The location
Cons: Other than sound proofing in the modern wing of the hotel we can't think of anything that needs attention.
Location: Great location....shops and restaurants in the vibrant little downtown are right down the block.
Unfortunately, we were not booked into the historic hotel but rather into the more contemporary 'motel style' building. Sound proofing was not good and we heard people walking on the floor above us throughout the night.
