“Nice Rooms But Forget the Pools”

Stayed here for 2 nights in Nov 2011& got and awesome pre-paid rate thru Expeda. The fully equiped room (kitchen & washer/dryer) possibly a former time share? was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. But our ground floor room had a partial see through bath window that faced the parking lot. We had to drape a towel over it for privacy. Room was fairly quiet until guests upstairs started taking their showers etc.. then it seemed we could hear everything. We were looking forward to the spa pools, but found the jets were barely working in them and each one we tried had myriads of dead flies in them - yuck! If the pools had been our main reason for staying we would have been sorely dissapointed, but we were in Wanaka for a wedding, so that was our focus. The maids did a nice job cleaning our room & check in/check out was a breeze.

“Not whst we expected”

From the name, "Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort", and from the photos, we expected a "resort". We got a mountain motel. It was nice enough but certainly not a "resort" by American standards.

“what a view”

The management is excellent. The hotel is a little outdated but very comfortable and in a good location. Wanaka is a remarkable city.

“Great Hotel!”

We( 2 adults and 2 kids) had a great stay. Wish we could have stayed longer. We all really enjoyed the pool/hot tubs. Great spot.

Area recommendations

Really enjoyed the monster truck and ATVing at Cadrona Adventure Park, near Wanaka. Also horseback riding in Glenorchy!

“Nice facilities”

A little bit out of the main town, the hotel has a nice swimming pool complex that is heated in the winter.
