Festive Christmas family breakPosted Dec 8, 2014
This hotel is truly beautiful at Christmas. Reception staff are outstanding and do everything to help. The hotel grounds and decorations are magnificent, warm and welcoming. We stayed in the Dorchester room which is fabulous and luxurious, great space for a family. The food is very good and fresh and plenty of it. The only negative is the wait for food at breakfast- 25 minutes. The kitchen struggled a little with having so many large tables to serve. The pool is lovely even with small toddlers. Would highly recommend this hotel, its not cheap but definitely worth it.

Don't bother to go there for the pool if you have kids.Posted Nov 9, 2014 on Hotels.com
We booked this hotel for our Longleat Safari trip with our 3 children because it stated it has an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool and spa, so we thought great it will be nice to relax in the pool with the kids after the safari. After late checked in we headed to the pool right away as we had just driven over 5 hrs so thought we could all stretch in the pool before our dinner. But only 15mins into swimming, a staff came to us and told us the children weren't allowed to be in the pool at that time of the day and asked us to leave with the kids straight away, we couldn't believe it as it didn't mention in hotels.com website, which we booked the room through AND it didn't mention in the Bishopstrow hotel's own website neither. By the end, we had to leave with very upset kids. Of course I complained to the duty manager, he said the rules are printed in the hotel catalogue, which was on the room table so you won't know until you're already there. We felt totally wiped off because the kids were only allowed to be in the pool between 8-10am (which falls exactly in breakfast buffet hours) & 4:30-6:30pm when we were still out in the safari. We could have save at least half the amount for a hotel without pool. The 'OUTDOOR' pool is very filfy & full of leaves and it only opens until sunset, on the contrary to the hotel's manual claiming it opens ALL DAY.

Nice Hotel for conferences or membersPosted Nov 4, 2014
We booked a room at Bishopstrow House for one night. The gardens are lovely and the outside of the house looks beautiful. It is a bit of a rabbit Warren and a personal sat nav would be useful! The positives were our evening meal was lovely, the room was clean, modern and large. The negatives was our room temperature was only set to 12c so we got out the extra radiator to get warm. The spa facilities are spaced apart you have to go through the changing room to the swimming pool and back through again to the sauna and steam room. The main lounges are decorated in a modern style with false book wallpaper, which is not my taste, but may appeal to someone else.

The hotel was in lovely countryside on the edge of town, excellent service, great room, beautiful food although the wine list was rather expensive.

DisapointingPosted Sep 9, 2014 on Hotels.com
Its meant to be 4* but its really mid 3*. No one mentioned to us the Spa had a plumbing issue so they were shy on treatments, and after the sauna or steam, you had to creep up to your room to shower, or wash it off in the pool...The barman had no idea what a Negroni was, and the double bed is in fact two single put together... Generally disapointing, the hotel is tired, the windows were dirty, ther was hotel debris in the gutters from the rooms - it looks as if not much has changed since its inception in the 1970's
