Basic but nice

Fairly typical for medium budget, but pleasant. No free breakfast. Quite decent for the price.

Surly staff adds to bad conditions

Posted Dec 28, 2014
Pros: Location - right off of I78
Cons: Better trained staff with a better attitude towards guests.
Location: Suburban NJ. Interstate access into NYC; pretty countryside.
We booked this hotel through the special discount Expedia service, ie, where you don't know the name of the hotel before pressing the button. It turns out that the hotel was under a major renovation in the lobby area and the fitness room was closed. There was often dust and noise throughout the hotel. The staff at the check-in desk was consistently incompetent. Did not seem to know the local area to help with directions. We were given free buffet breakfast passes to compensate for the problems, but the waiter fought with us about what was available at the buffet The substitute location for the fitness center was a YMCA across the street, but there were no sidewalks to safely get to it.

Needs an update.

This hotel needs an update. Room was ok pretty clean but bathroom below grade. Looks like doing some updates now but the place has been under construction for over a year and it looks the same. I would wait til it's finished.

Did not use any facilities of hotel other than sleep in room. It was basically okay. Hotel is being renovated; our room and hallway were not yet done, but were not affected either. We stayed Friday and Saturday. Each night a wedding group stayed at hotel, but reception was elsewhere. On Saturday our room was not made up until 4:00 pm. though it was not a problem necessarily. Our room was prepaid, but when we checked out no one was on the registration desk, so we did not get a final accounting.

Good Night Sleep

The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. We arrived after 1am and our room was held for us as requested. Wish I had time to stop at the bar or grab a bite to eat. I would stay again.

Nice stay ... Overall a good value. The bar and restaurant facilities are recently renovated. Good selection of beer. Food is so so.

Looks can be deceiving

when you drive up to the Somerset Hills hotel, it looks fabulous. Old style, colonial facade. Inside very tired. It is going through renovations, but I'm not sure the interior quality will ever match the facade.

A very pleasant stay, the staff was always friendly and helpful. I would consider staying again the next time I visit the area.
