Brillant breakfast!

A pleasant stay. Excellent breakfast, very helpful staff. The room was small but clean. Unfortunately, the bed was tiny.

Unlikely to return again

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: I used to use this hotel when it was the Post House a good few years ago. Since it changed to Holiday Inn the standard hasn't improved.
Cons: Certain aspects of the building are now looking "tired". The facade of a renovated reception area cannot detract from the true state of the hotel.
After arriving and checking in about 4pm we were relaxing in our room. We had heard some noise from some of the nearby rooms. However about 6 pm there was a banging on our bedroom door. We let it go as by not answering assumed some kids had obviously got the wrong room. Unfortunately the door banging did not stop and on answering the door standing there were 3 young lads who had certainly been banging on the wrong door. After they realised they were at the wrong room and they left I decided not to take a chance with any further problems as if this was the situation at 6pm then goodness knows what 11pm would have brought. So I immediately went down to reception to ask for a change of room/floor. The girl,on reception kindly attended to me first, apologised for the problem and re-roomed us on the 6th floor. We packed our things and up to the alternative room we went. As it was one of the better rooms it was larger with a few more features. However the window had no curtains only the net. This wasn't too much of a problem seeing as we were on the highest floor and not overlooked. Unfortunately as the hotel is now showing its age and it was a very windy night the draught was bellowing through the frames. I then had to pack the window frame with paper. In the bathroom was a puddle in the corner as if the previous guests had not had the shower curtain placed correctly. Finally breakfast next morning did not maintain the flow due to having to wait for different items on the buffet.

Convenient

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Food
Location: Not far from Newcastle city centre an amazing city.
Convenient location for getting into Newcastle, ample parking, staff friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable. The meal we ate wasn't as good though.

Cold, cold and cold

No heating, no hot bath water and no business wake up call as arranged, shameful.

Quiet hotel

Pros: Quiet
Cons: Restaurant opening earkier
Doesn't look great from the outside but was clean and quiet considering proximity to the motorway

Hospital food...

Posted Oct 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
You know what you get with a Holiday inn hotel - the room is clean and comfortable (for business travelers).. However the evening meals were appauling and expensive - the worst steak baguette I have ever had. Also the dining hall is too clinical with no atmosphere almost hospital surroundings. My meal was charged at £31 for a steak sandwich (unbaked bagette - 4 pieces of meat - no salad) - the most basic of basic food you will ever be served. To be fair to Holiday inn and the customer service staff - when this was pointed out to them - they removed all food from my invoice. So from that point - well played. I would stay at this hotel again although noise from the motorway can keep you awake. But I will never eat here again..
