Very convenient location to Washington, DC

The air conditioner was leaking the condensed water into the room. The bath towels would be good if the room price would be $30 but not $130. Very good breakfast. Very polite and helpful hotel staff

Difficult to find, but a decent hotel.

Overall, this was a pretty typical hotel. We got a great rate, but I wouldn't pay more than $100/night. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. Not sure about the location as we just slept there and didn't explore.

Was excited until I got there....
Posted Jan 16, 2013
Pros: Nothing
Cons: There should have been more assistance at the front desk at peak check-in time to reduce confusion and have more order. Poor Vijay was overwhelmed
I came into MD to visit family members and visit Six Flags for the first time ever. I was so excited that I was getting a Howard Johnson Room for the price that Expedia offered and because there was a pool and it was close to shopping and Redskins Stadium as well as a few other sites, I was amped! When I got there, I should have known that there was going to be an issue because the people ahead of me were already having one. I finally got checked in and there was no air in my room! Maintenance came and instead of fixing it, I was offered a freaking fan! "No, please move me to another room." I was then moved to a room that door lock did not work. By this time I just wanted a room after a 3 1/2 hour drive and i didn't care wich one it was. I reserved a non-smoking room even though I smoke and by room three, i needed one. since there was no sign on the door, I smoked in the room to later find that it was also a non-smoking room and was charged another $175.00 to clean it. The agent at the desk offed to only charge $100 since I was not informed of the room I was going to was also non-smoking, but I was only refunded $25. This was one of the worst experiences i have ever had at a hotel and will not be going back to this one EVER!

Nice hotel at a reasonable price
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: Everything!
Cons: A larger elevator would be nice.
Location: This hotel was near the University of Maryland, which is where our granddaughter was attending a National History Day.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and roomy, and the beds were comfortable. It was particularly convenient and money saving that a good breakfast, and an adequate dinner was provided. We would stay there again.

Never stay in htis hotel

Pros: Nothing worth mentioning.
It is an ancient hotel with Maint. staff busy all the time fixing something or the other. WIFI does not work at all. Airconditioner makes lots of noise. No exhaust fan in the toilet. No smoking room smells of cigarette all the time.

Almost perfect

The hotel was great. It is outside of D.C. so it's alot cheaper. They served dinner two nights I was there for free. Good free breakfast everyday. Free shuttle to/from metro station every hour. They will also pick up from the metro if you call them. The ONLY thing that I didn't like was the fact that the main room doors slammed shut if you let go of them. Everything else was great. I'll most likely stay here again for next year's conference on Modern-day slavery.

The room and staff was great!

Pros: thermostat control
Cons: Noisy guests
Location: 13 or so miles from Washington DC
Good clean room that was very comfortable. The hotel was great, especially for the price and convenience to Washington DC. My only complaint was the noise of the other guests. On the last night, late arriving tour participants/kids slammed doors, screamed, and yelled and played in the hallway until almost midnight--thats pretty late if you have early business in the morning like I did. Many children did the same on other days in the hallways coming out of the pool area. Some parental supervision would have been nice, or maybe some quiet reminder signs. There were many tours and buses staying there so breakfast was always crowded--I commend the hotel breakfast staff for keeping up with the demand.

We'll be back

The hotel is a bit older but all things considered you get what you pay for. The staff was amazing and went out of their way to provide us with everything we needed. The shuttle took us to the train that ran to DC and picked us up as soon as we arrived back. That was very helpful and it ran on schedule. Overall great place to stay we felt very comfortable

The hotel is somewhere in the nowhere. The shuttle service to the next Metro station is very comfortable. The hotel and the rooms need a renovation, the breakfast room in the 'basement' is very disappointing. I think the room rate was for D.C. and the hotel quality o.k. but I wish I had spend 20$ more.

Pros: Ease of access to the national mall.
Cons: The prevalence of cigarette smoke
Pros: friendly and efficient staff. Location of the hotel was ideal for a trip to D.C. The free shuttle bus to the metro was convienent and helped to save a good deal of money during the work week when parking is not free. Quiet atmosphere. A/c worked well. Bathroom was modern and kept very clean. Cons: (it may seem like there are more than pros but they did not impact my quality of stay at the hotel as the pros did). Third floor hallway had a slight stale smell of cigarette smoke. It was only noticeable in the hall and did not enter our room. The wifi in our room was atrocious. You could not get much done on it. Maybe it was the location of our room but our 3G had some problems with signal in that area as well. Once outside we were fine. Also bothersome was how close the outdoor smokers would stand to the building. The ashtray was located right outside the hotel lobby. This wasn't fair to mom smokers waiting outside for the shuttle or even to guests coming in and out. It should be off to the side more. Another thing that was bothersome was that none of the concierges gave me a receipt. I've always received one at check in of the charges on hold and at check out of what I was charged at a Howard Johnson. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would use the hotel again for the price I paid. Next time I'll just have to speak up ad inquire as to why no receipt.
