Lovely hotel. Had to ask to be switched from first room, which was smoky (despite nonsmoking status) and not quite clean (a half bottle of wine left on bureau). New room was great.

Over-rated

Posted May 18, 2015
Pros: Not much.
Cons: Maintenance and upkeep of bathroom. Wi-Fi service that works. Responsive concierge service.
I did not choose Loews-Madison. It was chosen for me as one of Expedia's "unpublished rate" deals. It was generally convenient to my meeting location. The room was spacious, but left a lot to be desired. The bathroom was dingy, with enamel flaking off of the bathtub. 'In-room' Wi-Fi was not working -- even after 15 minutes on the phone with a technician. I simply reverted to my own Verizon data plan and "hotspot" feature on my phone. I forgot my toothbrush, and had to call down to the concierge to ask for one. I was told it was on its way, but it never arrived. I understand that DC taxes and fees jacked the $278 room rate up to a whopping $343, but it just wasn't worth it. I could have done much better at one of the nearby Kimpton properties that I have stayed at on past trips.

Staff were great and breakfast was superior.

Posted May 16, 2015
Pros: Location, staff, room, food.
Location: Location great, near White House, etc. Things to do: sorry, boring: just slept and went to my meeting
Checked in very late, staff were friendly and professional. Big comfortable room with window; view with no street noise; slept well. Woke early, ordered room service. Pricey, but worth it - scrambled eggs done just right, aorta-clogging bacon (yum!) and a giant pot of excellent coffee. Fast and efficient checkout and genuinely useful directions to where I was going!

AC very noisy and disengaged staff

Posted May 11, 2015
Pros: Location Room decor
The hotel has a great location on M and 14th with nice room decor and is decently clean. My main complaint is - The AC window units are so noisy that it felt like sleeping on an airplane - The staff is very disengaged, robotic and just the opposite of welcoming. While they are far from rude they certainly have about as much personality as a bar at an airport would have. I would not go back

Loews Madison D.C. is Mediocre

Posted May 5, 2015
Pros: Comfortable walking distance to the White House and other sites. Most staff was great (the woman who checked us in was icy).
Cons: Better housekeeping would make guests' stay more pleasant. More attention to detail by maintenance staff would help.
Location: Logan Circle, a ten minute walk, has a great gelato shop (Pitango), Whole Foods, and SweetGreen eatery.McPherson Sq Metro Station is a 10 minute walk.
We travel to DC every year for a Mom Getaway, and we typically stay at the Willard Intercontinental. We couldn't get a room there this year, and since I had a great experience at a Loews in Atlanta, my friend and I decided to give the D.C. Loews Madison a try. Our stay, overall, was mediocre. Due to this hotel's caliber and price point, it deserves three stars for failing to live up to the expectations of its status as a luxury hotel. CONSIDERATIONS: NOISE is really awful from the outside! We had trouble sleeping. If you are a sound sleeper and aren't bothered by city sounds (sirens, traffic), then you will have no worries. There are NO NICE VIEWS of the city from this hotel. Our view was a brick building. Lobby area is small and uninviting. Though the hotel has been refurbished, the gray tones (designed to marry modern with historic) turned the hallways into dark caves. With the exception of the fluffy white comforters, the rooms are dreary. At times, a burning wood smell (from the restaurant) fills the hallway. Rooms need a good dusting. Our blinds crashed from the window, and dust went everywhere. Our used glasses were not replenished by housekeeping for three days. Our tub was chipped and in need of repair (Room 733). Flat screen TVs have no high-def. No in-room coffee makers unless requested. No newspapers (there is an app; we wanted paper) Overall, our stay was not terrible; it was just okay. We will go back to the Willard Intercontinental next time.

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us recently and sharing your feedback. I am disappointed to learn that your stay did not exceed your expectations. Our team works very hard every day to ensure a wonderful visit for our guests and clearly we failed to do that for you. I'm surprised to hear that you found noise from outside to be an issue. This is not something we hear about from guests often so I'm not sure if there was a particular event or issue happening in the neighborhood when you were with us but I apologize that this caused you an inconvenience. Being in the middle of the city, you are correct that we are surrounded by other buildings thus not leaving as good of an opportunity for a view as some other locations situated near one of the many greenspaces in the city. I'm disappointed to learn that your room was not up to standard and I can assure you we have addressed the concerns you mentioned as well as used the opportunity to re-train our team. Thank you again for staying with us and we do appreciate your feedback so that we may continue to increase our services for future guests. Warm regards, Justin Adam Director of Operations

Great base point to the city

Posted Apr 30, 2015
Pros: Location, professional staff, restaurants
Cons: Coffee makers in the rooms!
Location: The White House was an easy 4-5 block walk; several restaurants, coffee shops nearby
We came to D.C. for 6 days of site seeing and relaxing. Loews Hotel was in a good location, very walkable to the White House and many of the monuments. Staff and Taxis were readily available to provide assistance. Great restaurant recommendations from the concierge-D.C. Coast and Joe's, both within easy walking distance. Also, the Rural Society restaurant in the hotel was fabulous! Overall our visit exceeded our expectations!

Dear Les, It was wonderful to read about your DC sightseeing and relaxation getaway, and we’re excited to have been your “home away from home” for the trip. We were very glad to hear how much you enjoyed our location, which is a few blocks from the White House and convenient to many attractions. I’m thrilled you found our staff to be so helpful and took advantage of our knowledgeable concierge team. And thanks very much for the complements on Rural Society, our on site restaurant by renowned chef Jose Garces. We are so happy to have exceeded your expectations and would be delighted to be your hotel of choice in DC! Warm regards, Justin Adam

Overpriced hotel

Posted Apr 27, 2015
When we first arrived we had to tip the porter to take our bags from the taxi to the front desk and then tip again to get from the desk to our room. This is despite me travelling with my mother who uses a stick to walk. We had to do the same on leaving. The highlight was the room cleaner who was lovely and 1 reception staff Innoccence who knew washington and was Excellent. The other Concierges gave misleading advice about places to go and walking distances. Most of the rest of the staff were rude. When we went to the restaurant the ladies organising seating at the front were pretentious and made us feel unwelcome. The food was also not the best. When i asked one of the reception staff for a late checkout for 2pm versus normal checkout 12pm she told me i would need to pay 1/2 the room rate which was $200, which is ridiculous. She then spoke to me rudely and it was only when a manager stepped in that this was resolved. The hotel states it has a Starbucks, yet it is only open from 6 am to 1pm. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room meaning if you want a cup of tea out these hours it will cost you a lot! When you are paying a lot of money for this hotel you expect better.

Dear Frances, Thank you for taking time to provide feedback from your recent stay. I am disappointed to hear about your experience. Please accept my deepest apologies for the negative attitude you encountered with some of our team members, something which certainly does not meet our high standards for staff. We will address this service shortfall with our team members, as it is our goal and practice to provide extremely friendly, and consistently professional service. I am so sorry this was not the case during your entire visit. I do appreciate you mentioning Innocent and the other team member who provided great service. I also apologize for any inconveniences you experienced with hours at our on-site Starbucks barista bar. Regarding the late check-out request, it is standard for guests to pay an additional rate when the hotel is busy and that room would otherwise need to be serviced and prepared for new guests arriving. I am terribly sorry your request was not met with a considerate explanation. We thank you for the feedback as guests’ input is critical to continually improving our operation. I sincerely hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to host you at a future date. Warm regards, Justin Adam

Great hotel and staff. Even the doorman, Jorge, was great. Location is good, only downside is that there were not many good restaurants around. Overall very good hotel

Dear Robert, Thank you so much for staying with us recently and reviewing your experience. We were delighted to hear you enjoyed our property and especially our friendly team members. Jorge is a wonderful part of our team! Thank you for complementing our location too. Regarding restaurants, we often point guests in the direction of 14th Street, which is very popular for restaurants, bars and some nightlife, and is conveniently a few blocks from our location and 15th and M Street. We definitely encourage our guests to spend time with our Concierge team so we can make recommendations and point you in the right direction. Thanks again for your feedback, and we would love to welcome you back to Loews Madison soon. Warm regards, Justin Adam
