This is a very nice, old Hollywood glamour style hotel. Very convenient to the metro and zoo and it's located in seemingly a great part of town! We had a regular king room which was comfortable enough although the bathroom was small and the room door had too large of a crack at the bottom...we could see about 1.5" into the hallway/the hallway light/folks walking by. We had a reservation for one night but once there we decided to stay for two. There was a small porch off our room--I wouldn't really call it a balcony persay but it was nice to be able to go outside for fresh air occasionally. The worst part about this place is definitely the fact that yes, the parking is free, but it's street parking! Duh it's free (and probably a mile up the road). Otherwise you pay $41 a DAY for valet.

large hotel, extensive facilities

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: the pool area
Location: lots of dining choice, the zoo is free entry and within walking distance. try Open City diner across road for breakfast extensive choice!
Our visit didnt get off to a great start, The classic queen suite wasnt to our liking as the balcony looked directly into a huge air con unit on the roof of one of the function rooms. The staff were initially saying that they couldnt do anything unless we downgraded but then persistence paid off and another member of the team stepped in and sorted it out. so we moved to the front side on the 4th floor and that was much better same grade room etc. The pool area was very nice and also enjoyed the poolside bar service. the Roberts restaurant was good for dinner if a little on the pricey side, the staff were very pleasant and attentive, .There are plenty of dining options outside the hotel a short walk across the road. the metro is also very close by. The classic queen suite was a very good size very spacious, curiously the bathroom was very small. the downside for me was the air con unit in the room it was very noisy and kept me awake on a few occasions.

85 year old hotel, nicely kept

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Clean overall, nice hall, nice outdoor pool area, at times very friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Well, a lot.
Location: Valet parking is a must, as there are no other facilities in the area. A number of low budget restaurants round the corner.
We were there for 2 nights. The hotel is huge, providing space for large events. We had a rather mixed experience with the quality of their services: excellent at the reception and with cleaning staff, poor otherwise, especially regarding the bell captain. Very thin walls, we unwillingly followed each and every conversation in the next room, and not only that.

Wonderful hotel and surroundings. Just be aware that you must valet your car. There are no other options.

Short DC Stay

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Rooms should be updated.
Location: There are at least a dozen places to eat that are less than a block away. The National Zoo is three blocks away and the Metro is less than a block.
We arriived on a Wednesday and left that Saturday. The best part about the hotel was the location. It is a short two block walk to the Metro. I felt that for the price the room was very dated. There are illustrations in front touting the famous people that have stayed there over the last seventy five years. From the multiple layers of paint to the pealing walpaper in the bathroom I felt that they could have proclaimed that "Washington slept here" and have been accurate.
