An elegant place to stay
Posted Jan 29, 2013
Pros: Outstanding service
Cons: Low lighting in the bathroom
Location: Ideal
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights at the Hay Adams. It is in the perfect location just behind the White House and we walked everywhere, to the Capitol, The Jefferson Memorial, all the museums, etc. If we have any criticism of the hotel it would be that it is a little bit old fashioned, a very hushed environment. Families with small children might find it a bit too quiet. One other minor point (but this applies to all the hotels we have stayed in), the lighting in the bathroom is not bright enough and the hairdryer was travel size with no nozzle, absolutely useless for styling your hair. Next time we will take our own hair dryer. It's an old building so be prepared for squeaky floorboards. But that said, it's a beautiful, elegant hotel and the staff are magnificent.

Great hotel in a perfect location
Posted Jan 13, 2013
Cons: The bed could be bigger, but I'm a big guy.
Location: White House, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, K Street.
I can't think of anything I didn't like about this hotel. Location is terrific, the staff is attentive and friendly, the bar is everything it's cracked up to be and the room was perfect.

nice hotel if you plan to stay near white house

Room service and staff's responses are excellent. Wonderful location within walking distance of White House. Hotel is well kept but it is old and doesn't have enough cushion between floor. Walking at night make creaky noise and I can hear clear foot step from the room above.

Great hotel for ANYONE
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: Very thoughtful of our kids
Cons: Bathroom is a little tight
Location: Perfect location
We stayed at the Hay Adams very recently with our two kids, ages 5 and 7. We loved the hotel itself and the location - very close to the White House and the subways. The hotel was very cozy - loved the beds - and roll away bed for our son was a real bed - not some kind of flimsy cot. The staff brought up cookies and fresh strawberries for the kids which is honestly better service than they get at home... My husband thought the bathroom was small for a high-end hotel (agreed) but that's likely a function of the age of the hotel. The driveway up to the hotel is a bit of a treacherous walk - so watch out for that with small kids. Overall we loved it - would stay there again.

Disappointing...
Posted Jan 25, 2013
Poor sound isolation in the room... Noises from outside ventilation exhaust, neighbors' TVs, etc... Very small/crowded entrance hall, doormen are unpredictable sometimes you have 3 of them, sometimes nobody around...
