Great location & low key bar

Posted Apr 17, 2015
We enjoyed our stay here and it's central location. Street noise does affect the charm but we got used to it. Much better atmosphere than the chain hotels when traveling for pleasure. The hotel has a great flair to it and we really enjoyed the quite back bar.

Enjoyed the hotel very much

Posted Apr 16, 2015
Pros: Restaurant, doormen, tea, comfy bed, good TV channels, nice toiletries and water pressure
Cons: White Zinfandel at bar; empty fridge and get rid of snacks; we would have liked to purchase a book on the history of the hotel
Location: china town, national portrait gallery, ford's theatre, maddamtoussaids
The building is beautiful, and we loved the lobby, restaurant, bar, and sitting areas. Rooms were well kept and very comfortable. We had a problem with the heat in the first room we were given - they promptly sent maintenance to fix (which he tried); we gave it another 3 hours when the problem wasn't alleviated and were promptly given a new room without any hassle. Had breakfast and lunch in hotel - all dishes were delicious and staff was friendly. Bar does not have White Zinfandel, so we never hung out there. We did have the Royal Tea one afternoon - which was the perfect way to relax after walking all over DC! We liked having a fridge in the room but would have preferred it to be empty rather than filled with overpriced drinks and liquors. We could also do without the assortment of overpriced snacks in the room. They did have 2 bottles of complimentary water, which we appreciated. Bathroom and toiletries were great. It was hard to get the right temperature for the shower, but the water pressure was great. There are no ice machines, but you can get a bucket from the bar. No store in the hotel, but a CVS 1 block up. Very close to several good eats and Chinatown. Its a little more out of the way than we usually stay but it was still close enough to attractions, etc to be enjoyable. Taxis were usually easy to get. Doormen were fantastic.

居心地のよいホテル

建物は古く、部屋は広くありませんが、非常に落ち着けます。大通りに面しているため、夜は車の音で多少うるさいかもしれません。

Traditional elegance

Posted Apr 11, 2015
Pros: Traditional old world look, no chain hotel feel. Elegant.
Cons: Nothing really.
Location: Very central, in the middle of town. Pleasant tree lined streets.
A well kept pre-war building, reminiscent of an English country manor. Very friendly and polite staff with a certain homey feel. Rooms well appointed but amenities not overly luxurious, but perfectly fine. Some very nice and handy touches, such as excellent real hairdryers, ironing board with full size iron, good alarm clock, lots of sockets. Would definitely return to stay longer.

Perfect location for China Town and Verizon Center

Posted Apr 11, 2015
Liked the fact that it was not a modern, predictable hotel. However the room was very hot and was told all rooms were the same so nothing could be done about it. Fortunately we discovered that the windows opened so the 2nd night was much mor comfortable. Location was perfect for our needs

Pros: Great location, easy to get around from and it has all the facilities that you need.
Cons: Staff local knowledge for tourists
Location: Easy to walk to the sites from.
I didn't find the hotel staff all that knowledgeable, for example they didn't know where the nearest hop on and off bus stops were, I heard someone ask the barman where a good place to go for a dessert would be and he had no idea. They weren't accommodating when we complained that our way in advance booking was way more expensive that it would have been had we just booked a couple of days in advance - $100 difference on the one night. We had asked for an upgrade but were told it was only available for an additional nightly fee.

Romantic and Quaint

Posted Apr 7, 2015
Pros: Atmosphere and location.
Cons: The AC didn't really cool the room too well. Had to open the window, but woke up from the outside traffic noise.
Location: You can walk to the White House, Washington Monument etc.
This charming old world style hotel is quaint and romantic. Excellent location. Walkable to all the main DC attractions.
