Nice quiet place to stay in DC

Posted Apr 28, 2015
Pros: They provide a small but clean and comfortable room. The staff is friendly and helpful, but not intrusive.
Cons: Very little could be better - maybe a regular coffee machine instead of an espresso machine in the room, for us non-espresso drinkers.
Location: In a quiet embassy area with good-enough access to public transportation. It is a 1/2 mile downhill walk to Dupont Circle; 1 block from a bus stop
I've stayed here 4 or 5 times now over several decades. The Normandy has been a reliably quiet, pleasant place to stay in Washington without being too expensive.

Close to variety of eateries and national zoo

Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: Had a good European vibe with nicely appointed rooms
Cons: Softer Pillows; slightly more attention to stains on towels
Location: Quiet safe neighborhood tucked just off the main st. steps to nearby restaurants from Buca de Pepo to Russian House to Bistro du coin - Nat Zoo nearby
Nice front desk staff accommodating with good knowledge of neighborhood; quaint game boards and functional food services area; on warm spring day outdoor furnishings provided a nice spot to enjoy the sun and relax

Affordable Hotel within walking distance to DuPont

Posted Apr 10, 2015
Pros: Comfortable beds, great staff, free wine and cheese so we could meet new people, working elevator, the patio out front, the atrium, the reading lights
Cons: The dust ruffles in our room have paint on them and looked shabby. Some of the furniture in the public areas is shabby looking.
Location: For those able to walk uphill and for a mile and a half at least, DuPont Circle is close by with lots of restaurants and shops. The zoo was close by
We were warmly welcomed and treated very well during our entire stay. While this may not be the fanciest place in DC, there were comfortable beds in a very clean room. There is complimentary wine and cheese every evening. We met the nicest people from all over the world. The room we had with two double beds was a little cramped, but we made it work. There was a espresso machine in our room. It was cute, but I am a tea drinker and would have preferred a small microwave. We didn't really need it though since there was coffee and hot water in the community room every morning. Breakfast was available for a fee, but we headed out to eat every day. The flat screen TV was new and worked well. The bathroom was very modern and clean. Housekeeping staff kept our room tidy every day. We were fairly close to the DuPont Circle Metro station and from there you can go anywhere in DC. You do a lot of walking in DC and if you can handle the hike down the hill to DuPont Circle and then the hike back up the hill to the hotel, this is an excellent location. Otherwise, there are taxis and buses. We were in a room with a view of the front of the hotel and it appeared that our fellow travelers who had cars were well attended as well. I think parking was available under the hotel or right beside it, but it can't have been cheap. We liked watching all the passersby and the weather which changed constantly. Upon our departure, staff called for a car to drive us to the airport. Helpful to the end

Gem hidden in the Embassy area

Posted Apr 9, 2015
Location: close to the Dupont Circle metro station
When I saw the rate I was concerned about quality but this hotel is wonderful, small, boutique atmosphere, caring staff and of course the free breakfast food and cocktail hour in the afternoon. My only frustration was the in-room espresso machine- you need a degree from MIT to figure it out- too much work for a cup of coffee. But I would stay again in a heartbeat and have recommended it to several friends.

Toller Aufenthalt!

Lovely little boutique hotel.

I was staying at The Normandy Hotel for quite some time while in DC for research, and I had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were incredibly sweet, and I felt at much at home as possible while in a city I don't enjoy very much. My room was cute and comfortable. The lounge areas downstairs were welcoming and I enjoyed sitting and working here at one of the many cozy little spots. The design was tasteful, and the hotel has a personal feel that stands out in contrast to the ubiquitous hotel chain monstrosities. The location was perfect for grabbing the metro each day.

A jewel off the beaten path

Posted Feb 27, 2015
Pros: The wonderful staff and lovely rooms
Cons: Since there is no restaurant on site, it would be great if they had a suggestion list and menus available
Location: Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan are just a few blocks walk and an easy long walk to the the White House, Monuments and museums. Great spot!
I call this my home away form home when I travel to DC. I plan to return again and again. The staff are delightful and the breakfast and evening wine reception are lovely.

Lovely hotel!

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Loved the Nespresso machine (once I figured out how to work it) and the mini fridge was especially nice to have.
Cons: The room was really cold and we had a hard time keeping it warm when we did turn up the heat. The fan kept shutting off.
Location: Within a residential neighbourhood so it was quiet. Within a few blocks of restaurants and the metro.
This hotel is in a great location. We walked everywhere. The staff was outstanding. So helpful.
