Topaz Lounge - Trendy D.C. spot located on the ground floor serving breakfast and dinner daily and offering beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and appetizers nightly. Benches and cubes upholstered in sapphire velvet mohair. Acid jazz and lounge music play throughout the day; a flat-panel TV broadcasts DVDs with the sound off for atmosphere. Open past midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Recreation

Guests at this downtown Washington, DC hotel receive discounted access to a YMCA located within two blocks of the hotel. “Absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Topaz in DC!!!”

The staff at the DC Topaz were awesome; friendly, helpful, courteous, attentive and great with giving direcitons or getting a cab. We will stay at the Topaz when we return to DC. Thank you Topaz for a great stay.

“Very professional and extremely helpful”

I was initially worried because the price of the hotel was 60% what the other hotels were charging. However, the rooms were nice and well maintained. The internet was free and they offered guests a YMCA pass (located just around the corner). I'll definitely look for a Kimpton hotel the next time I travel.

“Nice place to stay”

Comfortable room. Extremely nice desk personnel - some of the best ever. The only reason not to give quality a five is the breakfast - which was inedible...oily eggs and potatoes. Otherwise, excellent

“Wonderful weekend stay!”

My husband and I have stayed at many Kimpton hotels and we love them all! The Topaz hotel (as with all Kimpton hotels) is pet friendly which is a huge plus for us since we have a large dog and most hotels charge pet fees and have a weight limit for dogs - not Topaz! In addition to being pet friendly, it is a nice hotel with a trendy feel and it's in a great location. We were able to walk to many restaurants and bars which were all within a block of the hotel. Also, at 5:00 every night, the Topaz has a wine happy hour in the lounge for all the hotel guests - a nice way to start your evening before heading out on the town. We had a great stay and look forward to coming back soon!

“Wonderful Dupont Circle location”

Nice quiet street - felt like a real neighborhood. Easy walk to good restaurants, bars, and shops. Room was tasteful, comfortable, quiet, and the hotel service was friendly and accommodating. The front desk clerk advised us to skip paying the valet parking and find a meter, as we were there from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon - saved us $38. I would definitely return here next time I'm in D.C.

“Topaz Review”

Nice hotel with an accommodating staff. The rooms were clean and the hotel generally well kept. Also Internet was free which was nice. They had a free wine event every day and that was also great. I didn't like 2 things. First, they didn't give you real soap in the shower. They had those bottles of soap. Not a big deal but men like real soap. Secondly the price of parking was high I thought. The taxes on the parking only added to the high price. Not sure what you can do about it because the parking on the street was metered. I would definitely go back there and would highly recommend this hotel. It was only a short cab ride from everything we wanted to see. About 2 miles from the Smithsonian.

“Great stay at the Topaz”

My family (myself, husband, son age 20 and daughter age 18) had a great experience at the Topaz. The front desk employees were always pleasant, the hotel was clean and in a great neighborhood. Our room had 2 queen beds, which seemed to be a rarity when I was looking online, plus a kind of strange area which looked to be a former closet that had been converted to a cushioned sitting area, which my son used as his bed. Only complaint about the room was that out of the 5 or 6 electrical outlets, only a couple functioned well.

Area recommendations

DuPont Circle was the area we stayed in and I would recommend it. It seemed safe, was quiet and within walking distance of restaurants and other amenities. Was either a healthy walk to the tourist attractions or within walking distance to the Metro subways.

“Great for a girls weekend home base!”

Quaint, clean and well located boutique hotel. Loved the wine reception from 5-6. Also they gave us comp appetizers because we got a 2nd floor room - which was actually very nice. Also next door to Tabard Inn which is an amazing spot for Sunday brunch!
