Good value, simple hotel in a central location

Posted Aug 26, 2014
The Comfort Hotel in Cuba St has a great central location, good for the Cuba St shops and cafés, Te Papa and the waterfront. It has very friendly staff and good facilities (eg a pool) shared with the next door Quality hotel. My room was well equipped, and very clean, fairly small and very simple/plain. Minor annoyances were the thin walls, and having a room which you could only access by walking down some steps. Not a problem for me, but if you have a heavy case or mobility problems you might want to let them know at check in so they can put you in a more accessible room. Great for a few days sightseeing.

Greedy??

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Cons: See above
The rooms were exactly what the website described - very small but clean and adequate for somewhere to sleep. What peeved me was having a $50 'bond' charged for every night of your stay booked! For some reason my Visa debit card was not enough, so they actually took $100 eftpos charge from me. Why??? There was no mini bar in the room!! Then to add insult to injury, when we tried to purchase breakfast our first morning, we were told we were unable to charge back to our room. The waitress checked some list and said "you are definitely cash only" ... Why?? Our wallets were back in the room, so I suggested that as I had already paid a $100 bond, the could surely do me the courtesy of letting us charge back? After some discussion, the waitress rang reception and said "they will let you do it because they can hear you are angry". Too right I was angry! I have had 6 years in hospitality management and the waitress treated me like I was a flight risk! Not happy and will not return because of this shoddy treatment. It was humiliating and embarrassing and I cannot fathom why this happened. I had prepaid for my accommodation online ..... Would love an explanation ....

Real value for money...close to everything.

Pros: The location. I love Cuba Mall. Spoilt for choice with excellent cafes and eateries all around. Nice and close to everything.
Location: Close to Courtney Place, just really convenient.
I stayed for two nights. A good size room with ensuite. Nice comfortable bed and I was a the end of a corridor so it was really quiet. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I will happily stay there again.

Where we wanted to be

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: It's what you need if you just need a place to crash that's not trashy
Cons: Shower was the only downside to the room
Location: Location was perfect for shopping and events
Really great stay, staff were pleasant. Had a little problem with the cafe downstairs but the manager was more than apologetic and corrected the situation :) very happy with our stay

Central ok for a short stay

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Overall the place was tidy and very central to everything which was fab! It is busy and has a buzzing welcoming atmosphere. Upon checking in the young man was somewhat rude (the only staff member to be like this) he requested my. Licence and whilst I was busy getting other items ready I forgot to ask for this back. Instead of him telling me I had forgotten to do this when I left he instead put it in the room pigeon hole I then went out for dinner and got asked for ID and declined as it was at the hotel - I would of expected he would of phoned our room to let me know instead of just leaving it there. The room is very very small as was the TV, on our first day when opening the milk it was curdled, had a foul smell and was obviously off. Our room was also not serviced on our last day but the gentleman on reception was more than happy to help is out in terms of supplies. The restaurant was beautiful and the waiter was bubbly and helpful! Great meal deals offered and the food was fabulous. When checking out we were told that the deposit (which we had to pay on top of our fee paid for the room - $50/night) would take up to 5days to come back onto our card! This was a pain as we hadn't budgeted for an extra $150 to pay 'just incase'. Even though the trainee manager woman had said we wouldn't be charged! Overall just a few things that let our stay down but would recommend to those who are staying are short time and not spending long periods in their room!
