Everything here is extraPosted Nov 18, 2013
Cons: Free Wifi and a smilling front desk staff
Be aware that this hotel charges extra for nearly everything. There is no free Wifi like most US hotels, it's $25 for 24 hours. Also, there is a charge of $25/night for the car park - BUT you can park for free on the street opposite from Friday night till Monday morning. We told the front desk that we had moved the car out of the car park onto the stret and wouldn't be paying them for their car park. Guess what? on check out they tried to charge us $50 for parking. Breakfast it extra - we didn't try it so can't comment on it . Be aware that they also charge $4 for paying by credit card. We also heard that there was a $10 charge for someone checking out just after the 10:00am check-out time. In the room we had there was no a/c - it was a good job the French windows opened wide to allow cooling.

Expensive and did not deliver on service/comfortPosted Oct 27, 2013
This is one of 13 accommodations during our 3 week stay in New Zealand and we rated it overall in the top 3 worst overall. First of all the positives; the location, views (if you can get one from your room), the 7th floor lobby and bar area. Now the not so good; some of the staff were indifferent in their attitude, there was no air conditioning and insufficient ventilation in the room, the bed was a mere double sized and not overly comfortable, the standard of cleanliness of the room could have been better, the toilet appeared to be tired with the piping and overall it was quite a mean place to stay. Very strict with Wifi and did not get your monies worth, the valet parking was $25.00 a day and it was an awkward affair particularly with the wind gusts. Finally, the phone bill I received when checking out; I used a phone card like I have with every other hotel I made calls from (without charge) but this hotel still seemed to register calls and want their pound of flesh. I informed the receptionist of this and my bill was halved accordingly. This place does not live up to its so called 4.5 stars, it is below par and greed outweighs customer service. We can make a proper comparison as we stayed in some genuinely good accommodation including two Hiltons. This place should take lessons from the Hilton.

Excellent hotel let down by internet policyPosted Oct 13, 2013
Pros: The views and location.
Cons: The internet pricing policy
Location: Great for jogging by the harbour. A five minute walk to the town centre and around ten minutes from the funicular railway to the Botanic Gardens.
The Copthorne has a great location overlooking the harbour and only a five minute walk from the town centre. The restaurant is located on the seventh floor and at least at breakfast provided a good selection of hot and cold food that was well presented. The room service fare was good. The room was very comfortable with superb views and would have been the ideal location to spend several hours at the desk clearing paperwork and working on-line, making VOIP calls and Skype calls except for the internet charging policy..... I wanted to make several different calls and access multiple documents over the course of 16 hours through different time zones - this would have been very expensive to do via the Copthorne. Instead, I explored the Botanic Gardens and deferred my business duties until my arrival in Dunedin where the hotel offered free WiFi 24-7. A real shame - a lovely hotel in a great location but not a good choice given my needs as a business traveller.

Ok but not wow!Posted Oct 12, 2013
Cons: Wifi capacity - should be free for guests
Location: Location was fine for main attractions in the area.
The hotel is ok but for what you pay you'd expect more. I found my room noisy as could hear other customers walking up & down the corridor outside. Also was surprised by the wifi facility. You get 20 mins free per day in the lobby but if you want it in your room, you have to pay, $12.50 NZD for 2 hours from when you log on.

Whistle Stop Visit to WellingtonPosted Oct 1, 2013
Pros: Its location - large well appointed bedrooms with lovely bay views.
Cons: Although restaurant and food were excellent, location of restaurant to the side and rear of the hotel meant that any worthwhile views were blocked.
Location: Location excellent - within walking distance of Te Papa and the older part of the city. Slightly longer walk to the Parliament Buildings & cable car.
Although only in Wellington for 2 nights, we were absolutely delighted with the Copthorne Hotel at Oriental Bay. Within easy walking distance of the city centre and attractions, lovely views from our bedroom window, pleasant and helpful staff - we would definitely use it again!

Nice hotel, close to CBD & waterfront, friendlyPosted Sep 30, 2013
The Copthorne Wellington was a good experience for us. We booked twim rooms and were pleased to see that they were separated by the bathroom, so each person was able to have their own space and it was almost like our own separate room. The rooms were clean and tidy and the staff were pleasant. I would definitely go back here over some other Wellington hotels that I've stayed at.

Very pleasant stayPosted Sep 15, 2013
Pros: We liked the pool (although a tad cold) and its proximity to the museum and Cuba Street.
Cons: Warmer water in the pool lol
Location: Loads to do and see. It's fairly central with a 15 minute walk to centre or catch a bus.
Stayed in a family room for one night. Loved it. There was a partition between the double bed and the single beds which made it feel like two rooms (really great idea). Room was clean and tidy and staff all lovely. Brilliant breakfast in the morning too.
