Stay away
Posted Jan 25, 2013
Pros: There were none.
Cons: Overall quality is extremely poor.
Location: ok but far from ideal.
"free" breakfast is a joke. Consisted of one dry cereal, milk, coffee and toast. Plus the coffee was always empty. Free internet was not available from the room and there is no lobby. Room was uncomfortable. One bed was acceptable the other was awful. You can hear every little noise from the hallway in your room and vice verse. TV reception was lousy and the hot water wasn't. They hotel is so cheap they don't even put towels in the bathroom and the two in the sink area is all you get. Soap and shampoo are in little envelopes not bottles. They are impossible to open in a shower with wet hands. The list goes on.

I think there are better inexpensive options
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: The old fashioned room key. It was actually a key.
Cons: Stained bedding
Location: Generally depressing. Coralville is nearby and probably a better choice.
This was an inexpensive hotel and we only planned a short overnight stay. The room was an adequate size, but the bathroom was very small and worn. Toiletries: one single small foil packet of shampoo and one of conditioner. The sink was little bigger than an airline sink. The heater did not seem to work, and the sheets, though appeared to be washed, had some small yet disturbing stains. I slept on top of the bedspread covered by my coat. We could only get about 4 channels on the TV, which was okay since we weren't there long anyway. It was a non-smoking room that smelled suspiciously smokey. The "lounge" in the basement was smokey and creepy. Across the street was a convenience store named " Come & Go." Except come was spelled with a K and a U and no e. Seriously! In fact, this site wouldn't let me type the name because it considered it "inappropriate language." And the Herbert Hoover themed McD's across the street wasn't very clean either. West Branch is kind of depressing.

I will avoid this place in the future

"Breakfast" was a loaf of bread, a box of cornflakes and milk. If you chose to eat there you had to stand around the refrigerator, there was no seating. The room was not clean. The deep down cleaning that needs to be done to keep up a room had not been done for a long time. Dirty grout in the bathroom, dust and dirt in the heater, no bath towels, dirt in the corners of the room. I was not comfortable in this hotel.

Quiet, yet close to some great sites!

Staff was very nice! The hotel itself is older and a little run down, but the room was clean and comfortable. There's a nice little Mexican restaurant on site. Good food at a reasonable price. Hotel is close to great sites, such as, The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library, Birthplace & Grave Site in West Branch, IA. The future birthplace of Capt James T Kirk in Riverside, IA (for the Star Trek fans out there, this was really fun.) Amish country and a wonderful cheese factory! I would stay at this hotel again.

Basic hotel for a good rate!
Posted Jan 29, 2013
Pros: Clean rooms, good price
Cons: Breakfast, ratteling of the fan in room
Location: Close to the Interstate, convenient to Iowa City
We stayed there while checking out the University of Iowa. Hotel room was clean enough, beds were nice and firm. Bathroom and hotel in general is in need of updating. Breakfast was very disappointing - thank goodness there was a McDonalds across the street! Internet connectivity was up and down a bit and certain tv channels didn't come in clearly. But for the price we paid, it met our basic needs and we didn't expect much more.

not the best motel

for a nonsmoking room you could smell smoke as soon as you walked through the front door. There were no sports channels on the tv. The roll away bed was not sturdy for an adult.

well meaning but...
Posted Jan 19, 2012 on Hotels.com
The inn is family run and so they seem to be trying. But the whole place reeks of cigarette smoke; 7 out of 8 times that I passed the front desk, there was nobody there manning it -- just a phone with a number if you need somebody. Hotel amenities are sparse. Nevertheless, the room itself was clean and everything worked properly. I was visiting U of Iowa and it's about 10-15 minutes away which is fine but there's not much around where the hotel is; however, it is only a minute off the highway so it's easy to get to.

Ok, but ready for some updates.
Posted Jan 12, 2012
Pros: There is a pretty good restaurant on the premises.
Cons: Shower
Location: Convenient and reasonably priced for a campus visit to Iowa City.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and the bedroom area had a mini fridge and microwave. The bedrooms also did not seem terribly outdated. There was not a hair dryer in the room, but I asked for one and they had a few for guest use. The bathroom needed work on the faucet plumbing, ceiling paint and tiles and the shower head. The showers were not very warm.
