Great place to stay, handy, clean, friendly staff

Stayed two nights to be able to do the Gordon River cruise. Food in restaurant was great, rooms were clean and tidy, handy to restaurant, car park outside.

Very musty

Posted Mar 9, 2015
We found the room had a musty smell. The furnishings were very outdated and the TV was a shocker. Tv blinked all over the place. STRAHAN was a great place though. Great memories!

Great location, extremely comfortable , just a pity the tradition of having complimentary biscuits in the room appears to disappeared.

Unfulfilled promise

Posted Mar 7, 2015
When advised Wifi was not working in room, office staff said they would send "someone to sort it out"; after 2 hours no one came so I managed with my own phone data. Apart the the above niggle the hotel room was clean and warm (it was very cold out)) with electric blankets and comfortable bed. The evening buffet was very good quality with a fair selection of seafood and other choices - good value. Unfortunately it rained almost non-stop during our short visit however the wilderness railway trip made the stay in Strahan worthwhile. Television service is currently restricted to 4 or 5 local free-to-air channels and if you happen to be a TV sport fan - forget it. When queried about service the Receptionist said plans were in place to improve - no time given. If we returned to Strahan we would possibly look elsewhere for accommodation but "better the devil you know"!

Great position overlooking water.

Posted Feb 5, 2015
Pros: View
Cons: With hotel position hard to improve. Location was fantastic. Shower turned from hot to cold as other residents used it in other units.
Location: Great location. Best views. God location for restaurants and across the road from Gordon river cruise dock.
Room small but has great views and comfortable bed and pillows. Loved the verandah but got a little noisy. Restaurant smells were strong during the early hours. Overall a great stay.

Wonderful view over the bay

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Pros: The views over the bay
Location: Near enough to Cradle mountain to be a base to visit it.
A really busy hotel but with all the facilities you need. A really good buffet restaurant that unfortunately We did not try. A really good break fast with magnificent views over the bay.

Back rooms are of lower quality

Posted Jan 14, 2015
Pros: The free tables on the front lawn with the beautiful view.
Cons: Room fixtures and fittings. Communication with guests.
Location: We did the seaplane trip the afternoon we arrived. it was a very good alternative to the cruise, although also more expensive.
We had a back room in the hillside building. We knew that it was a cheaper room without a view. What we didn't appreciate was that on a warm summer's day it would be uncomfortably hot and have a musty smell. Also the fittings were old. The clock radio was from the 80s. Thankfully, there is a picnic table and benches on the grass at the front of the hillside building where we sat, ate, and enjoyed fresh air and the gorgeous view. After doing that we showered and noticed that the hot water was only warm. The following morning it was the same. We were not happy. When we checked out the receptionist told us that the problem had only been drawn to their attention at about 9 pm the previous evening and they were trying to fix it that morning. There was another very irate guest at reception complaining about her cold shower. The management can't do anything about an unexpected maintenance problem in the middle of the night. I suppose that good management would have slipped a note under the room doors during the evening explaining the situation and offering 20% discount or the like. it would have saved a lot of angst.

Bait and Switch

Posted Dec 30, 2014
Pros: The deck in the dining area
Cons: Water pressure, WiFi
Location: Gordon River tour
Those charming cottages you see in the promotional photograph only comprise a small percentage of the accommodations at this motel. The vast majority of rooms are up on the hill above the town in 60-70's era motel-style buildings that are unattractive. If you purchase an inexpensive room as we did you'll get no view. The room was a bit old and dreary with a faded picture on the wall and an old-fashion CRT television. They claimed to have WiFi but it was only available in the dining area. I had trouble getting hot water from the shower and it only came out as a dribble. The one thing I did enjoy about this hotel was the beautiful deck and dining area overlooking the harbor.
