West End is the oldest city on Grand Bahama and lies at the islands western tip, about 25 miles from Freeport and 60 miles from the U.S. coast. The city served as a rum-running port during U.S. Prohibition and Al Capone is rumored to have done business here. Beginning in 2001, the city has seen significant and ongoing construction, including a new marina village and golf course just outside town.
