Recommended: We were extremely pleased with the Residence Inn at White Plains! A full kitchen and living room... more room than the two of us could've hoped for... and just 5 blocks from the Metro train 30 minute ride into NYC. Recommended: Room was spacious, fairly clean. We arrived at 9:00 pm and were given a room with 1 queen bed, but reservation was for 2 doubles, since we had our teenage son with us. Our room was changed after a short wait. New room however, had 3 lamps, 2 of which had burned out bulbs. We didn't bother to complain at late hour, but left a note for them the next day. Parking in garage was free since the Esplanade gives you a card to swipe to exit the garage. Very nice of them. Very loud in the street outside room, we turned on the AC fan to drown out music and shouting. For one night of sleeping at a reasonable rate, we would stay there again. Recommended: Had a good experieince here. Staff was quick to help, although a bit overworked since a large conference (or two) was in town. Not recommended: This was a very uncomfortable and frightening place to stay. The hallways smelled and the carpet was stained and frayed. The parking garage was dark and crowded with construction material. No signs directing you to the hotel. The room was clean but the mattress was very uncomfortable and the upholstered chair was covered with dog hair. High speed was available but only for a fee - which was not posted anywhere in the room. It was another trip down to the front desk to talk with the woman with the major attitude to find out about paying for the high-speed line. Needless to say I would not recommend this hotel. Not recommended: All rooms in this motel are smoking rooms - and I am a non-smoker who likes non-smoking rooms. There was no clock radio in the room, and there were holes in the walls. Also, there were no electrical outlets in the bathroom, and not enough in the other areas of the room. However, there were some positive things about the room: The bed was comfortable, the bath/shower combo was sufficient for my needs, and the room was clean. See all reviews for this hotel
