Very Good HotelPosted Mar 4, 2014 on Hotels.com
Very good hotel at the entrance to the Knysna Quays area. Staff were friendly and helpful, room of a good standard overlooking the swimming pool. Guest internet access was available. Breakfast was very good with plenty of hot and cold options, some cooked to order. Plenty of shops and restaurants close by but the area goes very quiet after 9.30 pm with most places closing though hotel bar was open until 11 pm. Secure guest parking available (R25/day)

Much better optionsPosted Jan 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
More like a french 2* family hotel. Pool not v big and very crowded - definitely not enough sun loungers. Pool water did not look clean - perhaps not helped by the municipal water supply being suspended. Communual areas of hotel were cleaned using really horrible cheap smelling cleaning fluid. hotel bar closed at 11pm New Years Eve !!! Prob better options in the nearby island now linked by a road - ate at Turbine Hotel which looked much better.

Value for money on the Knysna WaterfrontPosted May 18, 2013
Pros: The view from the lagoon facing room and the ability to add waterfront restaurant meals to the hotel bill.
Cons: Stone flooring in the hotel corridors which amplify the noise of suitcases being dragged across them
The Protea Knysna is a "middle of the range" hotel. The service is reasonable and breakfasts are comprehensive and well served. This hotel has set up an agreement with some of the nearby restaurants which are located on the Knysna Waterfront. The agreement allows hotel guests to eat at selected restaurants and then sign the bill for later payment (when checking out of the hotel). The bedrooms are clean and well presented, we received a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival which was a nice touch. The view of the lagoon facing rooms is very nice and will delight many guests.

Not really good value for moneyPosted Feb 21, 2013
my partner and I booked one night on this hotel as we were travelling through the garden route, the Hotel it self does not really offer good value for money specially for passing by travellers. we had to pay extra for parking, the wireless internet never worked for us ( we were allocated at the end of a long corridor ) when I asked for the well being centre ( gym ) mentioned on the hotel directory, was told had to pay extra to use that too. The room and bed were excellent for our need which was to have a good night of sleep to continue our trip, the location is excellent too near to the restaurants etc, but if we had to stay more then one night I don't think we would chose this hotel.
