Relaxing, pleasant stay!

Posted Apr 29, 2015
Pros: It's 18th century charm and the unique touches in every room. Individual tables in the dining room so couples can relax alone. The great breakfasts.
Cons: We thought it was lovely in every way.
Staying at the Lupton Lodge is an experience, not just a stay. The grounds are lush and lovely, and the Lodge itself is an 18th century beauty that has been updated to provide comfort and ease. We stayed in the Gold Room, which has a Queen size bed, big wardrobe and a small chair and table. The tv was easily viewed from the bed. The bathroom was as large as our room, with a beautiful claw foot tub, and shower, with a towel warming bar. Everything was superior including the bed and robes in the wardrobe. Andy was a friendly and yet unobtrusive host. He obviously knew the area and gave us some great tips about what to see and where to go. He also prepared beautiful, full breakfasts each morning and made a sumptuous dinner for us one evening. He does that for all, with early notice. The stay included use of a pool and a reading room off the main building. It too was lovely and a great place to read a novel and day dream.

Going to be hard to top this

Although the perfect romantic getaway local, this B&B was well suited for traveling with a toddler. With a large orchard, cows and chickens there was lots to explore. The breakfast was delicious, company was pleasant, our hosts were so helpful with travel tips, local information, & extras for the littlw, and our gourmet dinner was lovely. Great beds and everything you would need. Only drawbacks were we came too late in the season for the pool to be warm enough and the walls were a bit thin when we had upstairs neighbors.

Comfy and relaxing stay in the countryside

Posted Feb 14, 2015
Lovely old house, large comfortable room and ensuite bathroom and very friendly hosts. We enjoyed a home-cooked evening meal and two delicious breakfasts. Neighbourhood is very quiet, but about 10 km or so out of Whangerei town so you will need to drive if you want to go anywhere else. But with a well-stocked rumpus room complete with pool/snooker table and an outdoor swimming pool, you may not need to.

Wow! Can we please go back

What a fantastic spot on the doorstep of a vibrant little city and some of the best beaches in the world. We were welcomed with both arms by the owners. Both were very bubbly and knowledgeable people of the local area. The house is stunning, and holds so much history. Everything was of the highest quality which gave your stay that little bit if luxury. The lodge is set on some beautiful grounds and instantly makes you relax. The breakfast was very tasty and we even decided to have dinner too over a few of New Zealand's finest wines. With the hot Northland sun beaming down, the pool was another feature. Would definitely return and would highly recommend.

Nice, cozy retreat

We only stayed one night and didnt get to enjoy the full amenities offered but nice, cozy, clean retreat with good service. A bath to relax in would have made it a 5 :) Recommend over most options in Whangarei.

Oasis

Posted Nov 21, 2014
Pros: The Host, the cuisine, and contemporary interior mixed with estate/grounds. Wish we had more time for a walk to see the outer property area.
Location: We had a car/GPS - it was easy to visit any location, city or rural. Andy's knowledge of the area and activities fit perfectly.
Andy is Host Extraordinaire - with tranquil and sophisticated facilities. After the drive from Auckland Intl Airport, he created superb dinner/dessert for us (pre-arranged). His knowledge of area activities plus maps/directions are immediate and precise. Access to hotel after late drive to Cape Reinga was readily available. It truly was the highlight stay in our 3 week New Zealand Holiday.
