Pros: The view of the river.
Cons: Such a grand lobby area, such a shame that it has been let go. Definitely in need of a renovation.
Location: Nothing opens before 10am, even the coffee shops, had to drive a ways to find breakfast. The river walk area was nice.
We were looking for a place close to Moundsville, and this place was the only one that had any rooms, now I know why. Upon entering the Hotel, the smell is the first thing that greets you, overwhelming cleaning fumes trying to cover the underlying musty/mildew smell. The staff was adequate, although not overly helpful. Two tiny elevators to go up to the quest rooms, the elevators are dirty and creepy. When the doors opened and you step into the hallway, the stench of cigarette smoke is the first thing you notice, even though it is a non-smoking area, it smelled like years of smoke that they again tried to cover with chemicals. Once in the room, it was much better, although the beds had old, squeaky springs and paper thin pillows. The air conditioning worked well, and we did have a nice view of the river from our window.

Staff Nice, Room filthy

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Staff friendliness, provenance of the historic elements.
Cons: Cleaned, revamped - repaired, dripping sinks fixed, dings, cracks and scuffs repainted, etc. Staff could use proper uniforms
Expedia failed to contact us that the McClure was full after we had booked in advance. So we got there road-weary at 11:00 p.m. to check in, and were notified that they were full and that Expedia should have let us know. After the 2 staff members spent much time on the phone with Expedia and surrounding hotels in the area it was deemed that the entire area was full - no rooms. The staff then called a guest who had booked a block of rooms, but was still waiting for the arrival of a friend, who was going to be a day late, and he generously agreed to let us have the room for the night. The hotel is historic, but hasn't been kept up. We were relieved and grateful to the guest and the kind staff who helped us! Unfortunately the room was so very dirty--in the usual ways of mildew and hair in the bathroom-- but also in more obscure ways of a thick layer of visible dust on the entertainment center and a forgotten handful of nails (?) in the corner (telltale to how thorough the vacuuming was). Ultimately, our schedule allowed us little time there, arrived late, left early in the morning. Staff went the extra mile and were kind, room needed a serious cleaning.

The staff was not terribly friendly and the continental breakfast was not good. The room itself was comfortable but no matter how I tried to turn down the ac it was still freezing in the room. I will not be staying here again.

run-down and unkempt

Pros: The cafe in the restraunt was not much to look at, but the service was excellent and the food was much better than I expected.
Cons: quieten down the staff, get better sweepers so the place is not so dirty. replace broken and damaged furniture and fixtures. leave AC at least on low
Location: good location for those having business in downtown Wheeling.
The room was hot, the bed was worn out and squeeked. The furniture in the room was damageed. The sink was cracked and mildewed. The hairdryer did not work. The carpet was frayed. the bathroom in the public areas was dirty ansd smelly. The morning cleaning crew was loud and played country music in the halls and hollered at each other. The AC had been turned off in the room. It was a 90 degree day so when I arrived at 11 pm that evening the room was an oven. Please leave AC at least on low if rooms are reserved.

A Decent Place to Stay

Posted May 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
We ended up at the McClure Hotel because we were passing through and many of the hotels that were part of familiar chains were completely booked. It turned out to be clean and comfortable. Some of the decor could use refreshing but otherwise it was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful and there were some restaurant and bar options a short walk from the hotel.

My experience at McLure Hotel

Posted May 18, 2014
Pros: History, view from room, staff.
Cons: Try to remove odor in hallways.
Location: Only there for a college graduation but it looked like there were a lot of historical things to do, shopping and the casino.
Hotel is pleasing to the eye but there is an underlying odor either smoke or mustiness. The restaurant was closed for renovations during my stay but hot coffee, fruit and packaged pastries were available. The desk staff were very friendly and took pride in their work and establishment.
