Needs a remodel and more facilities

Posted Jan 25, 2015
Pros: The view was nice and the cockatoos were fun to watch. When we were able to get a golf cart for a day, the island itself is beautiful, not the hotel.
Cons: The hotel needs a MAJOR remodel. It looks like it was last remodeled in the 70s. More facilities, staff. Let us know we need reservations in advance.
When we booked our stay, we were hoping for a relaxing stay with access to the Great Barrier Reef. What we got was a bustling hotel, overrun with people, lines for breakfast, difficulty getting dinner reservations, and a beach that was 6 inches deep when the tide went out. The hotel has lovely views and the cockatoos are charming. They do indeed come to visit the balconies although you shouldn't feed them. The interior of the rooms, however, are very old and falling apart. Deliveries to the hotel start early in the morning and you can hear everything from your room, including trucks pulling up and backing out. In their defense, we were there at their busiest time of year, but there was a 30-40 minute wait to get seated at breakfast. We had difficulty getting dinner reservations. One of the couple of places that didn't require reservations was expensive ($40 steak, no sides), with no table service. You walk up to order your food and pick up a number and they bring it to you.... again, with a warning that the kitchen was behind about 40 minutes. Most people get around on rented golf carts, which they ran out of. When we tried to snorkel, the beach was so shallow that we were scraping on ventrums on sand and rocks far out past shore. We were later told that it would be better to walk out for 100 yards before even trying to snorkel. After a few days of frustration, we left a day early and couldn't get our money back for the room we had already paid for.

Impressive stay at the Reef View

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Pros: Excellent view overlooking Cateye Beach and Whitsunday Island. Convenient location to the beach. Helpful staff in the reception & tourist information.
Cons: Air condition in the lobby. Their staff is sweating while working.
The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. The view of the hotel is spectacular and impressive, especially during sunset period. There were plentiful of restaurant nearby. The transport to Marina was also convenient by free green line shuttle bus.

Main hotel close to everything.

Posted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: Proximity to marina, beach & pools.
Cons: Needs a modern update urgently.
Location: Close to pools and beach. Golf buggy rental, sports facilities, bowling and mini golf.
I would recommend the hotel only for the fact that that it is one of the few large family friendly hotels on Hamilton. That's not to say it's a bad hotel either. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ....meh, just ok. An OK selection of of the usual fair served at large hotels, but dissapointing was the fruit and yoghurt. Fruit tasted really bland and they also served canned fruit! What a joke for the price paid. The double room we had was comfy and slept two adults and two children on the tenth floor. Room smelt quite musty throughout our stay no matter how much we left the balcony door open. Bathroom and bedrooms were a little run down and tired looking, and do need a modern updated.

Great hotel with views to die for

Posted Jan 19, 2015
We had a great stay here and probably has the best location with the most amazing views. We were lucky to have a room with a sea view. I think the staff could have been more informative at check in but apart from that it's was a fantastic stay!

日本人には良いと思う!

Posted Jan 18, 2015

Had a great time would definitely go back. Great facilities and plenty to do. The only downfall is the cost of food and goods just a little too expensive.

Nice hotel, great view

Posted Jan 11, 2015
Pros: Convenience, view, location.
Cons: Everything is pretty good, maybe the bar underneath could have an upgrade - but that's just being picky, it's not essential.
Location: Location is excellent, a 1 minute walk from catseye beach, with views over the beach. Live music at the bar was also good.
The room was basic & comfortable with a great view. The staff are friendly & the whole island seems to be really well run - transfers from the airport are well organised and everything well planned and orchestrated. My only gripe was that things (like shower caps for example), once used, we're not replaced. The balconies are large and have an evening light so nice and comfortable at any time. The view is really lovely. I have stayed at the Reef View hotel 3 times now and I will definitely stay there again. It's couple, family & travelling mates friendly & close to everything you need.

OK hotel but very expensive

Posted Jan 6, 2015
Pros: Location, comprehensive breakfast, friendly staff.
Cons: Needs a refresh.
Location: Near the main beach for activities such as canoeing, sailing, snorkeling. Close to the marina for trips to other islands and restaurants.
The hotel is OK, but is extremely expensive for what it is. It is starting to feel a bit dated (1980's) which would be fine if it was not for the 5* price. Perhaps we just went at the wrong time of year. Location is good, near the beach, all activities are free. Families would probably feel more comfortable here as there are many children in school holiday seasons.
