“The restaurant was the best. Very quiet location.”
This hotel is about 10-15 minutes walking from the Wilderswil train station. The bus runs almost to the door from the OST train station. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel lacks an elevator so they carried our luggage up to the room. Breakfast was good. The restaurant was the best. Loved the combine bar and dining area. Best mixed salad in Switzerland. Ask for Andy to serve you. He had great recommendations on where to go and what to see. We will always remember The Bear Inn as a great place.
“Nice, but a little out of the way”
Improvements? I've never paid $150 for 4 people to eat Pizza with a glass of wine. Restaurant attached is expensive (as are most in Switzerland). There also isn't much to do without walking to the train station (a pretty good hike) or having a car, which we did. But, we knew that!
“A welcomed change”
We arrived In Interlaken Ost via train from Paris. Once in the Ost Train station, we caught a short train ride to Wilderswil. This train drops you about a 5-10 minute walk, virtually no turns, to the hotel. There were street signs pointing to Hotel Baren right by the small train station ticket area. Our visit in Paris was fun, but very overwhelming. The walk from the Train station to the hotel was so awesome! We were accompanied by cow bells, pollution free air, and views of the snow capped moutnains all around! We had a warm welcome to the hotel, given our bus pass and restaurant instructions, and taken to our room. The view from our window was directly to one of the snow-capped peaks, so there could not have been a better one. Each night we slept with the windows open and again to the sound of cow bells in the night. The breakfasts were great, the employees were helpful and fun, and the location was VERY relaxing! Thanks Hotel Baeren!!
“Nice hotel in a quaint and charming town.”
The Bear Inn lives up to its name with a bear at the front entrance. The rooms are rustic and charming. The restaurents in the hotel are excellent. It is good to see many of the locals eating there.
“Warm Swiss Hospitality”
We loved this hotel! We were looking for small family run inn -- and we found it in the Bear Inn. The staff and managers were warm and attentive. It felt as if we were house guests not just hotel guests. The rooms were comfortable and charming. The views spectacular. Very centrally located -- only a 10 minute walk to the train station. The on-site restaurant was great! It featured traditional Swiss dishes (superbly prepared!) as well as chicken dishes and pizza. Our children especially enjoyed the pizza! Each morning the hotel offered a complementary buffet breakfast -- great coffee! Wilderswil is a lovely town, the inhabitants were kind and friendly. Almost everyone spoke some English. We would definitely stay there again!

“This is Switzerland”
If you're planning on seeing "traditional" Switzerland, then this is the place to stay. It's quiet and away from the city of Interlaken, but only a short 10 minute bus ride away (and you get a free bus pass from the hotel that's good during your entire stay). Beautiful Chalets and homes surround the hotel, and the atmoshere is very relaxing. Although the building itself is very old, the rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were complete with well working showers. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer than a few days. If you want a modern big city location, try another hotel. But if you want to experience "Switzerland", you must stay here.
“Much Better Than Interlaken”
The Hotel Baeren is a great place to stay in a very nice town off the beaten path. It has easy access to all the mountain locations, the staff is super friendly, the food is good and it is not overrun with tourists like Interlaken. Breakfast is good. We would definitely stay there again.
