“Location, location, location”

A clean, quiet, family hotel, in an excellent location for a visit to fascinating Williamsburg. It is adjacent to the Visitor Center, from which free bus services take tourists on a circular route around Old Williamsburg, also to historic sites at Jamestown and Yorktown. If you prefer to walk, it is a pleasant mile or so down to the historic area, passing the authentic historical farm. This is one of those rare places in the U.S. where it is possible to function without a car. It is possible to arrange reasonably-priced transport by town car from the nearest airport, in Newport News. There are plenty of restaurants on the circular bus route around the historic area, notably the international-level “Fat Canary” on Merchant’s Square. Or immediately behind the hotel find good sandwiches and pizzas at the “Huzzah!”

“Family Friendly”

We visited Colonial Williamsburg and decided to stay at the Woodlands for its convenient location. I can highly recommend it. We got a 2 room suite, well worth it for travelling with our 8 and 11 year olds. They had the sofa bed, which was fine for them, plus their own tv. The king size bed in our room was fine, not 5 star linens, but not saggy in the middle as mentioned in other reviews. The only minor problem was the air conditioner is a wall unit that keeps the bedroom cool, the living area not so cool. The continental breakfast was fine, busy because of spring break, but staff was restocking and tidying up when we were there. I'd stay away from the waffle maker and toaster, that is the only place there were lines. The best part of the hotel was having breakfast at hand and being able to walk over to the visitor center and pick up our tickets, maps, go to the gift shop and then walk on the pathway to the colonial area. We also used the free buses from the visitors center to go to Colonial Williamsburg. We did go out to eat up Hwy 60 and saw a ton of chain hotels, but I felt very connected to the colonial area and it added to the experience. The hotel grounds are nicely landscaped and there is a nice playground, tetherball, mini-golf, table tennis area in a shaded area behind the fitness center, that was a hit with the kids.

“Quiet place for being so busy.”

We went at the peak of tourist season to Colonial Williamsburg and found this place to be quiet even with busloads of people. The rooms were nice.

“Great Location for a good time in Williamsburg”

Loved the location. It was so nice to easily walk to the visitor center to start or tour of Williamsburg. The hotel staff were fantastic. My only complaint was the continental breakfast. It was ok but dining room was always crowded. There's also no place close by to get an evening drink after 9:30 pm.

“Perfect Location for the Historic Triangle”

With a location just steps away from the visitor's center, we had complete access to local shuttles into Historic Williamsburg as well as Jamestown and Yorktown. The sylvan setting, clean modern rooms, and sports/fitness amenities, as well as friendly staff and moderate pricing rounded off the experience.

“Great hotel with lots of amenities”

The room was made more comfortable by having three nice comfortable chairs in addition to the beds. The check-in desk had three employees and all were VERY helpful and professional. The hotel had many amenities that we didn't use such as the fitness room, miniature golf, etc. The only negative is that the dining area used for the continental breakfast was often completely full with no available tables. There was outdoor seating but on a cold day this seating area wasn't practical.

“Stay Here”

This has to be the best value in the Williamsburg area. Staff is excellent and rooms are very nice. Transportation to the Colonial Area is provided as well as Internet and breakfast. You are close enough to walk to the Colonial Area through beautiful trees and pathways that are just amazing. My wife left a jacket in the room and a call two days later resulted in staff having located it.
