Nice hotel with rude staff

Posted Dec 23, 2014
I stayed in one of the suites. Beautiful room with gorgeous views. Half of the lights wouldn't turn on. My room didn't come with bottled water like some of the other guests in my party's rooms did. I called down to the front desk and they sent up room service with water. When I explained to the girl that I didn't want to pay for water I just wanted the complimentary water she told me I needed to take it up with housekeeping. The "not my problem" attitude is something I can't stand. The room water comfortable and beautiful, but the staff needs upgrading.

Gorgeous historic hotel for a wedding

Posted Nov 3, 2014
I stayed for the weekend with a large wedding party and attended a black-tie reception in their ballroom. What a fantastic place for an event! Beautiful, ornate building and interior decorations, good food, friendly staff. I would recommend it without hesitation.

Pros: It's historical presence.
Cons: Food!
This a beautiful hotel, wonderfully located. The formal dining is terriblyb expensive with tiny portions and a lot of unnecessary formality. Eat elsewhere.

Grand Hotel, close to everything

Posted Sep 23, 2014
Pros: Its beauty, and attentive staff. I wish there were a place above to say "Maybe recommend".
Cons: Attention to cleanliness. Knowing that the staff wants to please, I know that they will take care of the details outlined above.
Location: Winterthur was exquisite. Longwood Gardens are also close by. The town of Kennett Square was charming; lots of 18th ce buildings.
We were in Wilmington for a visit to relatives and to Winterthur. The location couldn't have been better for doing all that we did. The hotel is a "grand dame": coffered ceilings, mirrored ballroom, crystal chandeliers, Andrew Wyatt water colors. Very exquisite. The staff was truly friendly and helpful. Details, well... The upgraded room that we had was also plush, but the carpet was worn and soiled here and there. One of the glasses in the bathroom had some kind of goo in the bottom of it. While the staff in the dining room was very gracious and attentive, their bosses should insist on clean and manicured nails (no jagged edges, please), and they should mention to those who pour water that the nose of the pitcher should not go into every glass in the dining room. And then, where do the fruit flies in the dining room come from? The issues of cleanliness in these last instances were the "snakes in the garden".

Great rooms. I have stayed here many times before and have never been disappointed with the rooms or the food. The Luxury King is truly luxurious. Housekeeping and room service are always great. I find the bell service, valet and front door staff to be lacking in courtesy and friendliness.

Excellent hotel.

Pros: The cleanliness
Cons: The comfort of the bed. The mattress was uncomfortable.
Location: We didn't get far. We watched a show at the DuPont.
The staff went over and above to make sure your stay was 5 star. The room was very comfortable. The bathroom was even better! We had a great time. My husband and I had tickets for Stomp (excellent show) and a wedding the next evening. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Fabulous stay!

Posted Sep 16, 2013
Pros: A grand style hotel. The lobby and dining room are beautiful. The suite was grand with a contemporary flair.
Cons: Nothing. The staff is knowledgable, efficient, and friendly.
Location: We visited Winterthur and the Nemours Mansion. We dined at 4 different and very good restaurants.
I bought 1 room for 2 adults at the last minute on Expedia. I was warmly greeted at the front desk and asked If iI wanted to upgrade to a suite for a mostest price. My friend and I ended up in a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath, living room, dining room with bar, and entry. The suite was lovely. We made reservations for dinner. The staff offered to drive us to and from the restaurant. The following night we ordered room service. Delivered timely, beautifully, and cordially. We enjoyed breakfast in the Greenroom. My stay at the Hotel DuPont was the perfect back drop to visiting Winterthur and the Nemours Mansion's gardens. .

Next stop Lawyerville

One of the few remaing Classics. Real bathrooms with separate Full Shower, Speakman shower heads, with NO flow restrictors. ((There is a God) Not exactly the Piere, Plaza, but it is Wilmington's best. Only note, the old (not classic) sculptured carpet needs replacing badly. The ghosts of Lawyers and Litigants permiates the worn out fibres. If you listen carefully you can hears their moans... the siren's song of Billable Hours. On Wilmington....If you like beautiful dress shirts (Fit to the 1/4 inch), power ties and TWO! button jackets at a really fair price... you'll be in Heaven.
