“Poor customer service”
Not happy with the front desk personnel. Good size rooms. Good view and location
“Nice but expensive.”
Was down here for the Beach2Battleship Ironman... so I didn't get to enjoy my stay like normal people would. Weather was cold windy and horrible, so we didn't do a whole lot. The room was awesome, very comfortable yet cozy. The hotel is placed in a pretty cool location on the beach right by an inlet that is fun to explore. If you're not concerned with the $$$, this is a great place for a quiet retreat, however it is exactly walking distance from the restaurants in Wrightsville (about 2 miles).
“Great family place.”
We had an overall good experience with this hotel. The location was perfect. Beach access was easy and immediately out the doors of the hotel after passing a pool. If you have kids, there is a wooden playset for the little ones and a beach volleyball set for the big kids. I also noticed the front desk person making efforts to keep kids happy with frisbees and things she kept behind the front desk. The view from our room was amazing and unobstructed. Our suite was divided in two rooms (bedroom/family room) with a pullout bed in the family room. There were tv's in each which was nice. The bathroom was also divided and there was a half bath that could be closed off from a seperate bathroom attached to the bedroom. Parking was easy and convenient. The only things I didn't like were the decor (outdated in my opinion and cheesy beach theme with oversized flip/flops on the wall of the bedroom) and the outdoor access to our room. There were two elevators, but one was out of order which made the wait for elevators a bit lengthy as the remaining elevator was slow. While there is a bistro onsite, there were not a lot of restaurant choices close by. However, there was cooking facilities in the room. All said, I would stay there again and bring the family!
“Beautiful Beach!”
We visited Wrightsville November 4 through 6. Hotel was great! We had an oceanfront suite with a balcony and the view was awesome! We did not use any of the facilities (pool, restaurant, etc.) so I cannot comment on that. We were visiting our daughter who attends UNCW and although a little ways from campus and downtown Wilmington the beach more than made up for that. You are probably about 20 minutes away from downtown so not bad. Would definitely go back again!!
“Would go back. Right on the beach, great FMily or couples retreat!”
This was a great little place right on the beach! The rooms need some updates but really overall I really enjoyed my stay. There were kite festivals all weekend and that was a first for me. This place isn't next to big buildings or the hustle and bussel. But it is still with in 8 miles of a larger town, groceries, Starbucks, eating out! Rooms have a kitchen and dishes, so great for longer stays! Would love to go back with my kids.
“Location was the only good thing”
We were on the beach, it was gorgeous, the hotel was nasty, the room was not well kept and didn't seem very clean at all. There are better options.
“come on Irene”
picked a week in late August to stay at the Shell Island resort, as did hurricane Irene. fortunately, we were able to stay four of the seven planned days prior to being evacuated. what this resort has going for it: beautiful location on the best section of beach on one of the best beaches in the US, and a wonderful staff that would go to great lengths to smile, say hello, and ensure all was well with our stay (pre-hurricane, of course). what this resort is lacking: the room was pretty dated, and the hotel itself is showing it's age...if you're looking for something luxurious,
“Great oceanfront location, All Suite hotel, I would go back”
The room was recently renovated, tastefully I might add. They had two LCD Tv's, one in Living Room and one in Bedroom. Beds and linens were comfy but not exceptional. Full bath and powder, both modern and clean. Great view of the ocean from the room and balcony. Staff seemed young for the most part but very friendly and knowledgeable. The only snag is the nimrod who checked us in at 11 pm. He never gave us a parking pass or towel cards for the beach. They gave me a warning and did not tow me from the garage or I would have freaked. The exterior architecture of the hotel is 70's concrete time share. In fact this place was a time share a while back. It has outdoor walkways which is at first unnerving 9 stories up, but the views are spectacular. There is an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and a large beach. One of the nicest beaches I have ever been to. Kind of a long trek from the hotel dragging towels and beach chairs. Had the buffet breakfast and a lunch. Both were passable but nothing special. Really impressed with the island itself. What a beautiful place. Went into Wilmington a few nights for dinner. They have some great restaurants and a charming, historic downtown. I was really impressed with this location. Being from New York, there was the natural beauty of the island plus the (mostly) urbane character of Wilmington at night. We will definitely come back again (assuming Hurricane Irene doesn't wipe it out in the next 24 hours).
“great location”
The location is the best part of this hotel. It is right on the end of the inlet. The beach is not crowded and it is beautiful! The pool was a little murky. The running water smelled like sulphur.
“Great Customer Service”
We had a couple of issues with our room but the staff worked hard to resolve them. The bathroom door from the bedroom was broken when we arrived, maintenance did a temporary fix. (I hope they truly fix it after we left.) the DVD/ Blue Ray player would play DVD's but not blue rays. They had someone come to our room to try and figure it out. He finally removed it and replaced it with another one. Their customer service is outstanding! Even though we had a couple of problems we would like to return.
