Hotel said available and booked on line. When I got there, they had no room for me and said they stop doing business with Hotels.com a week ago. After seeing the neighborhood, I was happy of not staying there

Terrible Hotel: dirty, over priced,
Extra charges everywhere. Hotel is some sort of a hostel for government funded travelers to Winnipeg for medical procedures. Hallways smell gross. Room is dilapidated. People running the hotel are pleasant enough. They're obviously well versed in dealing with complaints. There were no extra beds, even though we paid an extra charge of 60 dollars. Parking is 10 a day next to the outdoor smoke pit. Dodgy. Dirty. Dilapidated. NOT CHEAP.

Downtown hotel at a fair price. Good sized room with fridge and microwave, but not fancy. Front desk staff helpful. Very loud music from in-house bar was a problem Saturday night.

Disappointing.
Checking in required a deposit like a first and last on a rental apartment, which I have never experienced in all my travels. Parking not free; however, I received a complimentary parking as I was protesting. Furniture in the room appeared as if picked up from the curbside. Heating was horrendous the first night, I did not sleep well as I was freezing, only to be told the boiler broke or something. Needed an extra portable heater for a while. Complimentary breakfast can be skipped. Location is good for shopping and walking.

This hotel was awesome
The hotel staff was great my husband had a hospital stay and when he came out the staff couldn't do enough for him. It was a great experience for me and him.

I felt part of the family
This hotel is in a sketchy part of downtown Winnipeg, but I felt safe here. Run by a family, they were very friendly and were happy to accommodate any requests I had, including a late check-out so I could attend church without dragging my luggage with me. If you're looking for all the perks, you won't find them here. If you're looking for a place to lay your head without spending a lot, this is a good place to stay. I'm planning on returning the same time next year.

Old hotel and showing it's age.
Heat was non existent. They have a mini furnace in the room, but whenever it came on it tripped the circuit. So no heat all night. The old system barely kept the room above freezing temperature... Lucky they had an extra blanket in the room to keep me warm. They have a drink dispenser on my floor but it didn't work.

I would definitely stay there again!
Friends of mine and I stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza for 4 nights for Grey Cup weekend at the end of November/2015. We had 2 rooms with 2 queen sized beds in each. We were all pleased with the hotel. While far from extravagant, the location was right downtown in Winnipeg, which made it very convenient. The rooms were large, clean, and were more than ample. There is a restaurant in the hotel downstairs, but we didn't end up eating there, so I can't comment on it, but the prices there seemed very reasonable. The owner of the hotel was extremely friendly and accommodating to all of us.

Find somewhere else to stay
Staff wanted to charge $20 to leave a suit case unsupervised in the lobby. They also were not friendly. Staff needs a photocopy of your driver's license and they also asked me if they could help me in a suspicious manner when I'm just going to my room. Found a cockroach in the room. Staff member came into my room while I was sleeping to replenish the coffee. They woke me up in the process. I ended up just moving out after the first night and stayed somewhere else despite paying for the entire three night stay upfront. Not sure how this hotel got such high reviews. Convenient location.

Economical acoms in the heart of the city!
A very nice,economical hotel.It appears to be family run and I have no complaints.It is in downtownWinnipeg and everything is within minutes.

A Great Hotel - Diamond in the Rough
Hotel Royal is a diamond in the rough. Pros 1. great staff - very accommodating, friendly and helpful 2. the two restaurants attached to it are really quite good 3. rooms are comfortable and well looked after 4. though the neighborhood is sketchy, it is a close ten minute walk to downtown and the exchange district 5. Very reasonably priced Cons 1. The hotel is dated. It used to be a hostel, until it was bought and converted into a hotel about 2 years ago. 2. The location is pretty rough. Lots of street people, that sort of a thing.

Bad hotel
This is the worse hotel I have been during our family trip. The hotel location is not safety area. The room is not clean, the service is very bad. We have been asked to pay 10 dollars per night for parking at back of hotel.

Even with a reservation, my check-in took forever. The clerk interrupted the check-in several times to talk (in another language) to 2 older people who were sitting nearby. I asked what the problem was and he said he was checking what room I should be put in. I guess there was a lot of confusion about that because 2 hours after I checked in someone else tried to open my door thinking it was his room! The room was ok, but needs renovation. It seemed like an old office with a bed, especially with the unnecessarily giant table/desk. The desk chair was falling apart. There was a coffee maker but no coffee. Wifi was fast.

I Asked for Cheap and I got Cheap
They have coffee machines in the room but no coffee beans to make the coffee. They have ice buckets in the room but no ice machine on the floor. The refrigerators are set to freezing. First they say the bacon-&-eggs breakfast is complimentary then they say I have to pay for it. None of them smile so I constantly feel they are angry with me about something. Aside from that, the rooms are clean and comfortable, which gave a good night's sleep each night.

Great location
The hotel is close to downtown and the price was less than others within the area. The room was quite spacious and clean. However the complementary continental breakfast could have been presented with a little more dignity and grace. A cake was left over from a least a day before, but the plate that it was on was full of crumbs. Parking cost $10 per day, which when added to the room cost was similar to other hotels in the area though the other hotel that I stayed at the night before provided a hot breakfast. It is a 3 out of 5 rating in my books.

Clean, older hotel with very friendly staff
Friendly Staff, clean rooms. The Hotel is older, and nothing fancy, but is in the heart of downtown and close to lot's of activities. Great East Indian restaurant on site.

Felt safe in hotel room, but sketchy neighborhood
Hotel service was nice and the room was clean and safe, but the neighborhood was definitely sketchy. It sometimes didn't feel safe to walk outside with my small children.

Great place for cheap
Awesome place for a cheap stay. If you want a place with a clean room and nice shower this is it! Staff very friendly but didn't know what they were doing at times breakfast was above average for a continental. Great day hope to visit again!

I'd stayed there last year, so knew what to expect. Little was impressive one way or the other. The television schedule would have been a negative, but I did not go to Winnipeg to watch television. Per plan, I mostly used the room for sleeping. The bed would have had to have been *really* comfy to move the needle past adequate.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Royal Plaza; we spent the night for a concert. We walked to and from the MTS Centre hassle free and had no issue getting a good night's rest. We will be talking about this trip for years! And NOT in a bad way.

Worst hotel ever
The hotel was not good the bed was horrible the TV did not work the Complimentary. Breakfast was East Indian food it was a horrible stay so we asked to leave early and they refused to refund us for the last night which we did not stay not impressed

Hotel needs upgrade
My stay at tis hotel was a real NIGHTMARE. I arrived there and as soon as you enter there is a strong odour which is something that not all persons can take . I was assigned a room with NO proper heating system.a space heater which did not do much to my night . Actually I did not sleep the whole night .I was just trembling from the cold temperature. To add insult to injury the room had a power outage which lasted for about 20 minutes . I will not recommend this hotel to any one .

Hotel Plaza Royal. Winnipeg.
This is a family run business. The staff was friendly and very helpful. It is a short walk to the Convention Center. I stayed 2 weeks. The room was warm clean and quiet. I will stay there again on my next trip to Winnipeg.

Run Down, But Close To MTS Centre
This hotel is family owned/run by East Indian family, They are kind but don't seem to know how to use the technology to find your reservation. The hotel room is very clean and equipped with all the necessities. Parking was an extra $10 at check-in but the parking lot is under video surveillance for peace of mind. We walked one block into portage place and then was at the MTS Centre (Very useful as were there for Monster Jam! They do not allow drinking (alcohol) in the room $250 fine....... The walls are not very thick, We could hear the room beside us tv on. If you like East Indian food i guess you may like the attached restaurant. But overall it was not as expected, Nothing like the pictures may show.

The room was dry, no telephone in room no coffee pot. My grandson woke up with a bloody nose and me a wicked headache from the room being so dry. would never stay there again. service was good and staff friendly.

Wasn't as bad as some I've stayed at. However, I didn't care for the overall appearance of the hotel, needs serious upgrading. The room was clean enough, but higher standards would be more appropriate. The room had recently been painted however still needs upgrading. I prefer new white tubs in hotel room this was 1950s green :( It works if you need a quick stay however if you're going for class and 120% comfort I would rather spend a little more on a classier hotel. Like I say though, it got the job done. TV channel selection was excellent.

Awful breakfast
Breakfast was urgh! It consisted of toast, small donuts and omelette. Butter was in a large dish and looked like it had been there for days! Omelette was tasteless! Coffee was awful!

Surprisingly good.
The room was HUGE! More than enough space for two people. More than enough for 5 or 6. The hotel is in a really convenient location, right downtown. We weren't sure if it was a hotel or a hostel, though. The shirts of the staff said hostel, and so did the business cards. The included breakfast was good. Omelettes, veggie wraps, fruit, coffee, doughnuts- it was pretty great.

3rd time stay!
I have stayed at Hotel Royal Plaza 3 times now. I usually only stay a couple days at a time. It is a clean and affordable place to stay. Nothing fancy, but it is clean, the staff is nice, the food at the restaurant is great, and will definitely be staying there again.

By far the worst place i have ever stayed. When phoning hotels.com i did not think i would end up in a hostel (as per their busineds card) in the worst end of winnipeg.

It was a very interesting hotel/hostel... Sketchy neighborhood but friendly staff. If you dont mind the smell of curry and lysol youll be fine . Rooms very clean but bed was very hard.

A Great, Cheap and Friendly Hotel
The people at the hotel are beyond awesome. Everyone was helpful, friendly, and hospitable. The location is perfect for anybody wanting to be close to the core of the city. Everything is within walking distance. But the surrounding neighbourhood is unsafe. My car was vandalized within feet of the main entrance to the hotel. I would stay here again, but I would not take my car next time. If you are looking for a luxury get-a-way, this would not be the hotel for you. It is very old, and outdated. But the rooms are clean, and the staff are superb. A great place to stay for an overnighter. And the continental breakfast was great too! Considering the price, and the convenience of location, and the great staff, I would stay here again.
