“Unexpectedly good, better than all of the reviews I had read.”

I had low expectations having read many reviews saying that the hotel was in need of updating and not deserving the 4* rating. I had reluctantly booked because of its convenient location and was delighted to find my experience of the hotel was excellent and of a 4* standard. I was given a pleasant, spotlessly clean room overlooking a well kept garden. The bed was comfortable, the room temperature was perfect. Every member of staff, I came in contact with, were polite and helpful and the food was very good. All in all, faultless and will definitly stay there again should I need to be in that area.

“Good value for money, lovely room but the bed was a bit hard!”

Our stay was excellent value for money. We were in room 201 which, from the outside, looks as though it must be the best positioned room in the hotel, being on the corner with three big windows it was light and airy, spacious and comfortable apart from a hard bed which was fine for a couple of nights but not good for a long stay. The bath was a good size with strong water pressure so having a deep hot bath was easy and comfortable. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.

The hotel is dated but clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. I arrived at 3.00am on the night there was 20cm snowfall and even though the hotel had not received confirmation of my booking they found me a very nice room.

Room lighting was only just adequate, when it came to settling down and a read before sleep NO BED LIGHTS !!! Which i personally could not do, although my wife was quite able. Cigarette burns were quite obvious in the net curtains, which i would have expected the staff to find unacceptable. Food really good, all in all a good stay at a very reasonable cost.

“A rambling old hotel”

This old hotel attracts large wedding parties and receptions in its spacious meeting rooms. The individual rooms are at the back of the hotel, a long way from the reception and the dining room. The lifts are small and unreliable, so be careful if you are on the top floor. An English custom that I cannot understand is the room numbering system. The ground floor has the 100 numbered rooms. This means that you have to go to the First Floor to find the 200 numbered rooms and the Second Floor to find the 300 numbered rooms!! Now that is confusing!! The breakfast buffet is always worth the long walk from the rooms. It is tasty, hot, well cooked, varied and plentiful!! What more could you asd for for a full English Breakfast.
