The Hughenden Boutique HotelPosted Apr 13, 2013
Pros: The staff
Cons: The room quality
Location: Woollahra, Sydney; nice area close to the city
The picture on the internet wasn't a true representation of the room. It was very musky, like it had been locked forever. The furniture was old and tired. The bed linen wasn't changed, to my knowledge, in the four days we were there. The bathroom was tiny, wash basin was cracked,Tiles in the bath/shower were cracked. The breakfast was just warm, Staff were nice and helpful

Needs a good scrubPosted Apr 8, 2013
Pros: Access to shopping, cafes, bightlife
Cons: Hotel needs a refurb
The Hugenden does have its old world charm, and an excellent array of antiques and historical art...but sadly in need of a good scrub and paint job. Great location at one end of Oxford street, with easy access to shopping, cafes and bars. The hotel had a general 'damp' feeling all weekend and another couple travelling with us had a dreadful mouldy smell in their room- which was supposedly a premium room. For the cost of the room, I would look elsewhere. I generally like boutique hotels, and one does have to understand that these old buildings won't be like a 5 star hotel, but you would expect at a minumum a warm cosy room for $400 per night- which ours wasn't, we got a cold, damp room, with a mouldy shower.

Great HotelPosted Feb 4, 2013
Pros: Very reasonably priced and breakfast was included. Also free parking at the unit was a real plus.
Cons: Poor internet connection in the room. But this is typical when it comes to Australian Hotels.
Location: Excellent location
There was a problem with our booking on arrival. Thankfully the staff were very accommodating and provided us with a unit at no extra cost.

Such a welcome relief from the dreary, tacky country that is Australia. Staying at the Hughenden reminds you of being in a quaint English hotel where there is some class and style and there were few Australians staying there when I did making the getaway even more enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again!
easy to get to my work shopPosted Jan 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel needs refurbishment, which I believ they ar going to undertake. The staff were very helpfull, but after returning home I found my C/Card was charged for accommodation that I paid at the time of booking.

Good ValuePosted Jan 18, 2013 on Hotels.com
An interesting choice with good value. Breakfast was quite good with hot & cold choices. HDTV channel selection is good. Wi-Fi was only useable at the front of the building in the reception / lounge area. Experienced a quiet visit. 1 minute walk to Oxford St. to catch buses to downtown or Bondi beach.

Charming and unique with great potential!.Posted Jan 16, 2013
Pros: The antique furnishings and the comfortable bed.
Cons: The unfriendly staff.
Location: Fantastic location in beautiful street off busy main road.
The hotel is small and charming. The staff I encountered were efficient but not warm or friendly. They could be more personable. My room 21 was tidy and clean but there is obviously upkeep needed overall especially around the window frames and in the bathroom tiles. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Historical heart of a cosmopolitan city.Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: Lounge room, location,historical touches
Cons: Tiled floor in the room
Location: Close to padding ton markets and the park
I like the old style. It makes it more of an experience, especially the memorabilia scattered round the common areas. Historic places like this are getting rarer and I am sure that a lot of people like me, still appreciate them because it enables one to feel a connection to the heart of Sydney. Sure, Sydney is cosmopolitan, but it's human history is what gives Sydney it's cultural heart
