Nice hotel close to city.

Pros: Location and charm
This hotel is well situated close to the CBD and transport plus shopping areas and dining areas in Paddington and Woollahra. It is also close to a large area of parkland. The building is old but charming and was undergoing a facelift at the time of our stay. The staff are helpful. Select your rooms carefully as some of the rooms are small.

Three nights at Easter

Pros: The pleasant and very efficient staff, and excellent restaurant plus the handy location make this the perfect city stay.
Cons: The hotel must state which rooms are not yet updated at the time of booking.
Location: The location is excellent with a walk to Centennial park, Oxford Street and the beautiful shops and excellent restaurants of Queen Street.
As we used to live in Woollahra, and usually stay with friends on Sydney visits, this was the perfect home away from home, for us. The position in Queen Street was ideal and the guest parking was certainly worth paying for. Unknown to us, the hotel rooms are being refurbished, but ours had not been done yet. It was a spacious room at the quiet back of the hotel as requested but the very old bathroom had a tiny "antique" wood framed mirror above the sink that was less than adequate, and the bath was unusable due to a rusty hole in it. Once in the public areas, the Hughenden is charming.

Staff friendly and helpful. Room quite small and dated, but clean and manageable for one night. Bit squishy for a couple. Great location for Wollahra, close to everything.Excellent breakfast included, car parking very helpful.

I booked the hotel via Expedia, which portrayed refurbished, bright, clean rooms. Upon arrival, the room was tiny, dark, un-renovated and overall very, very disappointing. My $200 would have been better spent elsewhere.

Very English corny Hotel in Beautiful area

Posted Dec 1, 2013
Pros: If you like old English atmosphere, it is a great place. The only Hotel in Paddington. Good location, close to city and Bondi Beach by bus.
Cons: Bathrooms, double glass to keep noise out
Room at the parking (no 14) very noisy from oxfordstreet traffic Room small and dark. Bathroom/shower needs desperate renovation. Price/quality ratio fair. Try to wait for last minute specials on booking sites, they make the difference.

Good location

Posted Nov 30, 2013
Pros: Has charm
Cons: Needs a face lift
Location: Near SCG
Try to avoid room 16, it's an add on under a stair case and you here all the tap noises from other rooms

A repurposed treasure

Posted Nov 22, 2013
Pros: I loved the old furniture, architecture, location within walking distance of shops and parks, the history of how it became a hotel.
Cons: We were satisfied with everything.
Location: The location is excellent as far as good restaurants, boutique shops and parks. It is especially appropriate for people who like to walk.
We love staying in small, individual hotels and when they have a history like the Hughenden, it is even more of a treat. The staff is most often very personable and helpful. The location of this historical gem is close to boutique shopping and a large park system where we spent a lot of one day. We would certainly recommend this boutique hotel to others who like this kind of experience.
