This hotel is fine, good size bedrooms and nice bathroom, and located on one of the main streets in Taiyuan and normally I would rate it at about 3 stars , but the experience of staying in Taiyuan was not the best. We only stayed in Taiyuan for the one night ,we had been to Pingyao and were flying on from Taiyuan airport. Taiyuan railway station was full of Taxi touts trying to rip us off to get to this hotel (make sure you have the address in Chinese) and the hotel tried to rip us off when leaving . There is no English spoken and very few western faces around Taiyuan , not usually a problem for seasoned travellers ,but obviously we are deemed easy prey in this city. The hotel took a 200 RMB deposit , not unusual for Chinese hotels , but next day didn't want to give it back with no explanation as to why. We stood our ground at reception until a nice Chinese person who could speak some English helped us out. The hotel had charged us again for the room after we had already paid through Expedia . We got the money back eventually (a loud Englishman making a commotion at the reception desk makes quite a scene), no apology was given , they wouldn't even look me in the eye when dealing with my complaint . Be very wary if you stay here .

The place was very comfortable, although communication in English was difficult especially in the restaurant. There was a translated english menu offered with limited choices, but at least we could order something. I think normally there is a buffet though for people to choose food.

We stayed in this hotels apartment suite. It was just what a large family needed with a great central location. I would Highly recommend this hotel to anyone. This service was great and had all the amenities I needed, kitchen, washer, drying facility, and much more.

The décor in the room is well past it's best. There is no wardrobe. Breakfast has to be bought on top.
The staff despite the obvious language problems were very helpful and remedied the 2 problems I report very quickly.
The room is definitely in the need of a re paint.

They really did an excellent job by trying an extra effort to pick us up from the cabin of the bullet train. The driver Mr Zhu is an excellent guy with such a sincerity that we are really moved by his extra effort. The staff made an exception by letting my 9 old daughter play Oh Holy Night, Angel Voices,Allegoro and other pieces of piano for my 89 year old mom. I almost in tears when I record the scene.
