My wife and I were not sure what to expect after reading all the comments on this board and others. On leaving, we agreed the hotel far exceeded our expectations. We had two of our children with us, 12 yo and 3 yo. It is a perfect hotel for families! The pool was great (bring your own swimming cap, though). We upgraded to the exec level (I believe the offer is made to everyone) and had a room with 2 Queen size beds. Near typical Asian hardness but large enough where we weren't sharing with the kids! The entire hotel staff spoke good to great English and went out of their way to make the stay quite enjoyable. The exec level happy hour (530-830) was terrific and we even just stayed there the 2nd night for our supper. Xi An is a 2 night city - arrive early, spend the day inside the city, terracotta soldiers the 2nd day, leaving early the 3rd morning. I spent 121 nights in hotels, 95% in Asia, last year and can honestly say this hotel is worth the booking. Advice: Book your transport through the hotel - have them pick you up at the airport and wrk a deal out to have a standby driver when you go into town. If you take a chance at the airport (as we did on arrival), you may end up in a non-AC taxi that takes you to all hotels except your own. Cheap but hot! After that, we had the hotel transport and all was fine for just a little more money.

“Good hotel but far from the city center”

I was a bit disappointed with the hotel quality (I expect more from a Shangri-La hotels)-- the building is about 20 years old and the room decors seem stuck back in the 80's. However, housekeeping does a good job of keeping the rooms clean and the bed was quite comfortable. The hotel is located a good distance from the city center, but fortunately, there is a local bus right around the corner from the hotel that will take you right inside the city walls to the Bell Tower circle. Avoid the dinner buffet; the food was quite uneatable. The breakfast buffet has quite a selection, but again, the food wasn't that great...

“Nat. Holiday, Xian”

Hotel was what one would expect from Shangri La. Breakfast buffet had something for everyone, very good. Only negatives were: airport service through hotel was steep(400RMB) and the carpets and cabinetry were a bit dated. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

We did almost miss our early morning flight as they neglected our requested wake up call. They claimed our phone was off the hook, but the couple we were traveling with called our room to find us and the phone rang just fine. Lame excuse.
