It was wonderful to return to the peace of the Spring Garden Courtyard Hotel after a busy day amid the crowds, dust and noise of Beijing. The staff were always friendly and exceptionally helpful. They were happy to book taxis, call restaurants and answer queries. The 500-year-old courtyard house is quite beautiful and reminds one of how much has been lost in a city ravaged by ring roads, tower blocks and seemingly endless construction sites.

We stayed for 5 days during June and found the hotel very relaxing and restful. Staying here was like staying in someones home with your own room. The courtyard is a very pleasant place to sit and read or have your breakfast. Breakfast if required is basic but fine to get you going of a morning. The bed was ok to sleep on and not to hard. Bathroom is quite small but always had hot water available. This hotel is reached from the main road by alleyways so it is best to have a map and address in Chinese. This is in a very safe neighborhood with plenty of local people, young and old who always seem to be socialising amongst themselves as this is a living neighborhood. In the future hutongs may slowly disappear so experience one when you can. The Metro line is only 5 minutes away, and from there Beijing is your oyster.

2 Bedroom Suite was huge!! Very comfortable. Pool was very nice, locker rooms were very clean as well. My wife said the room service meal was so so but there are plenty of nice resaraunts close by. The hotel is connected to a huge 10 story mall so there was lot's of shopping including a convenience store.
By far the best part of the trip was shopping at "Silk Road". It is a 7 story mall with excellent quality knock-offs of every major brand. Be ready to negotiate, as I got into the swing of things you could buy stuff for 10-15% of their asking price. It is 98% cute Chinese girls who speak excellent English and they are tough, just be ready to walk away and they will give in. If I could bring them back to the US and build a sales staff with them I would be a Billionare in 2 years.
McDonalds and KFC are just a Heartbeat or Heartattack away if you need them. Great little tour company in the lobby with English speaking guides to take you to see the local sights. Beware of the "Foot Massage" place they might take you, They get you in a room while you are getting an incredible footrub and then a Chinese Herbal Doctor and a Tibeten Doctor reads your palm and offers to cure you for a few hundred bucks. This experience will rival any timeshare presentation that you may have been to.
Great hotel, great price and great location.

Wonderful oasis in the midst of a hutong. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. They arranged transport to and from the airport and to the Great Wall. I have been to Beijing, but never stayed in a hutong. It made me feel like I was living in ild Beijing. The hutong is an area of contrasts - beautifully restored homes, elaborate front doors, tiny alleyways, and what appeared to be a recycling collector with trash bags full of plastic bottles and bike loads of cardboard. My only complaint is that my stay was too short!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the rooms were big, and clean the staff was friendl and courteous. I especially loved the Bar( atmosphere) and the Buffet was rather enjoyable because of the variety of food available.A lady named Candy who worked in the Bar was very sweet and helpful to me, she went out of her way to assist me, and was one of the very few that could speak and understand most of what I was saying.

If you want to experience how does the old Chinese living look and feel like, then this is the best hotel for you. You wont be able to locate this by just looking at its facade, all it has is the small No.58 placed on its vintage red door. It is located at the end of a hutong (Xisi Beiwutiao). The hutong is relatively safe during the night. This hotel is kinda far from the subway station though. Ping'Anli being the nearest is around 750m away, while on the other side is Xisi subway, which is 800m away or even close to a kilometer. But if you are looking for Chinese restaurants along the way, better walk to the Xisi station. This hotel does not have any restaurant by the way.
