Henan offers plenty of villages, towns and cities, each blessed with its own distinct attractions. If you're looking for other places to check out, you'll find Suizhou, 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the northeast, and Zhumadian 60 miles (97 kilometers) to the south.
Every place contains a special history and this area has plenty of its own stories to tell. The archeological sites in these parts are particularly interesting.
If you're seeking an escape from seeing the sights, why not try a local watersport? Boating and rafting are both well-established within the region.
One of the joys of exploring the world's many cultures is discovering languages you are not used to, so take the time to try out a little Mandarin during your stay. "Nǐ yào bú yào gēn wǒ tiàowǔ" is a good one to try. It means "Would you like todance with me?" Or try "Zhèiwèi xiānsheng huì qīngdān" (This gentleman/lady will pay for everything).
At the end of your stay in Xinyang, use your last renminbi on last minute keepsakes and say Zàijiàn (farewell).
