A bit old, but well maintained, very clean. The road there is very bad, luckily it is not far. Eco village is misleading name. Quiet during the night. Restaurant on site but almost no options for vegetarians and expensive! Breakfast is not included and expensive for a family. You have to go to Xpujil and that is a 15 min drive. There are tvs on the wall that don’t work. No problem but remove those. Two very old bedside lamps (a bit molded), only 1 worked. Bathroom is old. Very good location to explore Calakmul. The swimming pool was closed, the receptionist promised us that it would be open the next day, but off course it wasn’t and she wasn’t there the next day. Very disappointing that you would promise this, knowing that it would not be true. It felt as she wanted to get rid of us. Our sons were disappointed especially because there is nothing to do for kids in the ‘village’.

Nice & Clean, pool closed
I have stayed here three times. The Ecovillage has aways has been a great option for the Xpuhil area. Unfortunately, this time was a bit different. 1. The pool is closed indefinitely. It would have been courteous to let guests know this in advance. 2. We had no A/C in our room, while we always had A/C in the past. 3. We had no bottled water in our room, while this had always been the case in the past. Other than those three things all went well. The rooms were clean and the water hot. Staff was friendly. In the future I will call the hotel directly to make sure my rooms has A/C and the pool is open.

Couldn't check in until 3 but were offered the pool and restaurant while we waited. The service in the restaurant was iffy; lunch was good and quick; dinner we had to wait quite awhile to place an order for anything; the waiter only had one other table so couldn't figure that out; never checked to see if we wanted more to drink or eat. Be sure if you want A/C to ask for it - not all rooms have it. Wifi is spotty at best. The hotel was SPOTLESS!

Great, basic resort near ruins
Great resort just outside of Xpujil. This was our second time staying here. Rooms are basic, but very large and clean. Each has a great balcony for relaxing with chairs and table. Shower is hot. The resort has a pool and restaurant. Both nice and simple. In an area that doesn't have a ton of hotels this place is great after a long day of trekking ruins.

Location in the jungle at crossroads between Merida/Palenque/Chetumal/Campeche. Convenient to Kalakmul and other Mayan ruins, some only 8 kms away. Good food, reasonably priced. Great pool. The rooms are clean and everything works but a bit of paint and new lamps would be most welcome. Rooms are good for family of 4 (2 double beds)

Great Hidden Gem
Fantastic place well off the main highway. Spacious clean rooms, with front porches. We are at the restaurant on site and was delicious for all meals. The pool was very clean and refreshing after a day at the ruins. The service was spectacular as well. We will definitely stay here again!

Good option 40km from Conhuas
Good for one night that ae stayed. It is situated near Chicanna aeound 40km from Conhuas where you start another 60km road to Calakmul. I found the room best quality/price option in surroundings. The hotel could invest some money on the pavement that goes from the main road to the hotel. A 150 mexican peso breakfast (7.50 usd is too expensive as it is a very simple one.

"Eco" just means lacks amenities and service
What kind of Eco village still uses plastic bottles for drinking water and doesn't ask you to re-use your towels? The only thing "eco" here is the economical use of good service . The staff are completely untrained. The girls at reception seem to have been hired for aesthetic reasons . The three who were behind the desk were more interested in their own conversation that helping a newly arrived guest and I finally got basic assistance from another guest because not one of the three had a word of English. Really? In a hotel that mainly caters to the busloads of American and European Tourists passing through. No English? At THESE prices? I paid more than $100 U.S. per night here (two nights) and I would say the most they should have charged was half that. Let us also discuss the food situation. Just as the girls at the desk are inefficient and unhelpful , their male counterparts add an air of indifference and solemn stupidity to the ambience. The kicker here is that the food on the menu is literally inedible. I sent my meal back and said "I won't pay for that" and sure enough he gave me a look like "oh, you're on to us?" and the bill was expunged . No concern what so ever about what was wrong with the food. They already knew !I am talking about rancid meat here, folks. Overall, this place should be avoided at all costs. I was told it was the best one could do in Xpuhil, but that surely cannot be true.

Cosy place in the middle of the countryside and good access to the Mayan ruins. The place is, however, worn down and needs a bit attention. The restaurant should have more local dishes (and not burgers and pasta). Swimming pool only had 3 sunbeds and then just normal chairs.

I do recommend it...
Easy access from the main road and yet very independent and in the middle of the jungle feeling... very kind service... the hotel consists of 42 bedrooms in houses of 4 bedrooms (or less) each... don't expect a resort at the Bahamas... but it's a nice place to stay if you plan to relax and enjoy the archaeological sites of the area which are awesome: Hormiguero, Xpujil, Chicana, Becan, Balamkul and Calakmul...

Beautiful place for a short stay
Well maintained and landscaped ground. Very peaceful. The pool was very nice. Comfortable room. Very helpful and friendly staff. The receptionist helped us getting ADO bus tickets from Xpujil as we didn't have a car. We read unfavourable reviews about their restaurant before we went there but we found it to be pretty decent. Chicken main dishes were really tasty. Of course, you can't compare to quality that you get around Cancun area.

My reservation had a major error in it. Expedia repeatedly crashed. So I couldn't correct it. The hotel has a no cancellation policy. I paid for a night I wasn't there. It will be a long time before I willingly use Expedia again. The hot water was just adequate. Too few electrical outlets required unplugging lamps.

When location is important
We stayed here, wanting to have access to the several smaller Mayan ruins and position ourselves for a bigger trip to Cakakmul. That worked ok, but don't expect a posh accommodation, though it's among the best in a very limited area. The restaurant on site may be the best part of the experience.

Spartan, Even in the Personal Treatment.
This hotel serves its purpose and the owners know it. It is not a place where you go for vacation, it is a place where you go to sleep while a lot of things away from the property. It is close (use the term very loosely - 2 hours) to the Mayan site of Calakmul and it is a great place if you are into birding, like I am. The rooms is very spartan, two beds, a lamp on a night stand, a small table and another one on the outside terrace with two chairs. The furniture is old, the wooden slat windows do not close properly, the mesh outside the windows is thick with dirt and the space under the door allows bugs to get in. There were geckos in our room that obviously found a way in. The place was surprisingly noisy from the trucks driving on the nearby highway all night and because of the window situation is also very noisy when the other tourists come and god as the voices carry in the middle of the jungle. The stairs between first and second floors albeit beautiful, both in craftsmanship and color, are very rickety and noisy when people go upstairs. The pool area could use some work on the patch of dirt on the opposite end of where you come into it. The personnel at the reception area have the charm of a cold brick. The bright spots : it is safe, it has a guard 24 hours a day, it is great for birding, it is close (30 kilometers) to the largest bat cave (which we visited with our guide) in the Western Hemisphere I was told, and the food at the restaurant is not bad.

Nice hotel very close to Mayan ruins
This is a simple but lovely hotel, very close to the ruins at Chicanna. We walked there inlets than 10 mins. The wildlife you can see here is part of its attraction, we saw foxes, tapirs and a whole host of birds which the hotel have named in a list they provided. The cabaña rooms are very clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant which considering this is quite a remote location was very good and catered for vegetarians. There is a small refreshing pool and a watch tower to view birds.

Unique experience
You want to stay in this hotel if you are visiting the Mayan ruins of Calakmul which are located 80 miles from Chicanna Ecovillage. I and my family stayed here just for a night. The cabin-like very basic rooms are in the middle of the rain forest. No TV, no telephone,no cell phone signal... internet is available only in the front desk area. Most likey, the sound of hundreds of birds will wake you up at 5:30 AM. Food in their restaurant "La Biosfera" is really outstanding. In summary we enjoyed the experience.

Nice hotel on the middle of the jungle
We stayed for 3 nights, the 5 of us in a matrimonial room. The staff was helpful in installing an extra bed. Convenient location by Chicanna ruins site, about 10km from Xpujil town (minimarket, doctor and pharmacy and a couple of restaurants- we tried Sason Veracruzano and it was quite good). Good base to explore Calakmul as well, about 2 hours drive through the jungle still.

Perfect for Chicanná, Xpujil and Becán ruins
This collection of two-storey, four unit buildings is set in well-kept grounds with a very good pool. The Ecovillage is located just opposite the entrance to the Chicanná ruins–it’s close enough to walk there. Also nearby are the Balamkú, Becán and Xpujil ruins, all worth a visit for their impressive remains and natural settings. The accommodation is spacious, with nice leather chairs on each balcony. Our bed, however, was much too firm for our liking. The restaurant serves food of adequate quality, but for a very good evening meal, book a table at Rio Bec Dreams, just two kilometers away. One big plus for those who like birds is the observation level on the eco-village’s water tower: from there you see the treetops with their perching and foraging parrots, orioles, tanagers and many other species. We were lucky to see three collared aracaris brilliantly lit in slanting evening light—absolutely beautiful.

Good value, close to ruins
This hotel is a lovely option if you are looking for someplace to stay while touring the ruins in the area. The property is far enough from the road and a few kilometers outside of Xpujil, so that we found it to be very quiet and peaceful. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained and there is 24-hour security on site. The room was large, clean and also well-maintained. My only complaint about the room is the bed, which was incredibly hard. I like a firm bed, but this was extreme. As a result, neither my husband nor I slept very well, and we both woke up sore. That aside, I still thought this place was good value and we enjoyed our stay. I particularly liked listening to the birds early in the morning!

Great value. Very accommodating, I had missed booked the date of my stay by one day and although we had a hard time contacting them after booking they switched our reservation without hesitation upon arrival. Hard mattresses on beds, fine for me to firm for my adult daughters. Very clean, shower worked great, dinner was amazing and affordable at onsite restaurant. Highly recommend this resort. Perfect for checking out local Mayan ruins.

Rooms and grounds are all good given location of hotel. Breakfast staff were quite rude, clearly not wanting to be there. The restaurant was poor generally, although the staff in the evening were more polite. Double check about whether meals are included or not.
