Truly beautiful dutch colonial restored hotel.

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Everything. We were there for Halloween and the staff dressed up and there was a themed buffet evening. It was such a memorable night we wont forget
Cons: Not really anything.
Location: There wasn't really anything next to the hotel we needed. We mainly caught taxis to dinner and shopping.
One word. Magnificent. It was such a wonderful visit to a lovely City. The hotel and staff were fantastic.

Very Nice and Cosy Hotel In Town

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Setting Condition of rooms
Cons: TV - number of channels and quality of transmission Long walk from lobby to room Lift breaks down so need to really fix this
Location: Maliaboro - street shopping
Great hotel with friendly staff . Nice pool though a bit small. Cosy ambiance . Staff attentive but some not too familiar with places around the hotel. Command of English pretty good. Easy for getting cabs and beca.

Pleasant Stay at the hotel !

Posted Nov 3, 2014
It is a wonderful experience. The staff are attentive to my request, the beds are very comfortable, it is what you need after a long tire day of travelling and sight seeing to come back to this little heaven in the midst of the hustling and bustling city of Yogjakarta. I would definitely return to the Hotel again

Elegant hotel with beautiful interiors

Posted Oct 9, 2014
Pros: The architecture, furnishings, helpful staff who spoke good English. The classic charm of the hotel.
Cons: Nothing
Location: About 20min from airport without jam, 20 min walk to main shopping street.
Really comfortable stay with attentive, polite, well spoken staff. Loved the beautiful restaurant, Paprika where we had a scrumptious dinner on our last night there; excellent local food and the veal special was delectable. The excellent piano player added a touch of class to the whole experience. We visited the comfortable bar everyday for refreshment after trips to Borobudur, Prambanan, the Water Castle etc. The pool and well equipped gym offered welcome respite too. The superior room was a comfortable size with a really comfortable bed (2 super singles joined together). It was a city view room but the balcony was surrounded by plants and private enough for reading and reflection. The toilet was a little on the small side and a tad worn but everything worked well and towels were fresh smelling. Many quaint furnishings in room.

A good hotel but definitely room for improvement

Posted Oct 8, 2014
Pros: It's got a lot of charm being a 100yo building with lots of amazing local arts and crafts throughout the building. It is like being in a art gallery
Cons: The service, we had quite a few service issues during our stay and also the food at the restaurant was served luke warm
Location: The location is not great, there is nothing around or within walking distance. The main shopping area (Maliboro Rd) is a solid 25-30 minute walk away
We had a 4 day long weekend in Yogyakarta. The hotel was fine, but we encountered service issues. We found the service at breakfast to be slow, waiting 10-15 minutes for them to bring our coffee on each of the mornings only for the coffee to be luke warm when we got it. As there are no restaurants around the hotel or within walking distance we ate at the hotel for dinner and again the service was slow, and the food served luke warm. On one night they completely forgot my wifes order. On check-out we pre booked a hotel car for 5:30am to take us for the airport and the car did not turn up until 5:45am even after we repeatedly asked "where is our car?". I wouldn't say the service was bad, the staff were all very friendly and very helpful but we did experience the issues above. On the positive side the hotel has a lot of character and the rooms are very comfortable. Aside from the issues above we enjoyed our stay.

Comfort and elegant style

Posted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: I love the two-person gamelan orchestra that gently serenades every meal - so relaxing as you read your emails on your iPad using the free wifi :)
Cons: Some of the sealing around the shower was a bit scruffy
Location: For an adventurous and delicious local meal, try Bumbu Desa. Take a taxi and ask him to wait for you. Be brave and order things you don't recognise!
I love staying at The Phoenix. It has style and class - decorated with wonderful antiques and art pieces, it suggests memories of another era, yet offers every modern convenience. The pool area is wonderful, and many people to spend the whole day lazing around it.
