“historic hotel in Jamestown”
Located in Jamestown, this hotel matches the character of an old gold mining and railroad town. The hotel rooms are small and the bathrooms are obviously add-ons; however, the character of the place is charming. The National Hotel down the street is in better shape and has a nice dining area and bar that this place lacks. Skip the breakfast and go down the street to the coffee shop.
“could have been better maintained”
There were dust bunnys in all the ceiling corners and fan and the coffee pot and the coffee pot didn't work.
“Would not go back unless they made some serious improvements”
We chose this hotel for location via the internet. Location was great and we had the best steak ever at the restaurant next to the hotel. We made the decision to stay in one of the cottages, we thought it would be quiet so we could get some good rest. We stayed in #6. Walking to the door of the cottage felt like we were in a horror movie and I expected some kind of poisonous spider or something like that to attack. Cottages were really run down and needed some major renovations and deep cleaning done. Once inside, we checked out the bathroom. Toilet flushed & shower worked, but that was the the best I can say about it. There were no towels out, I found them under the sink and they were all damp. We were exhausted from a long day so we just layed out the towels to dry to use in the morning. The bed was actually comfortable, but it was hard sleeping knowing there were probably plenty of bugs/spiders etc crawling around. In all fairness, I didn't 'see' any bugs, but the webs & evidence left behind were obvious. We didn't expect much for the continental breakfast but were very surprised to find it wasn't too bad. Plenty of fresh food and was in a clean area. Perhaps staying in the main part of the hotel would be better, but don't stay in the suites/cottages. This is not the type of place you take your shoes off and walk around the room!
“hard to find, as hotel name has changed”
excellent location, but hard to see as the name has changed. clean with moderate breakfast. our room was small and because at the very top of the stairs we heard a lot of coming and going traffic...otherwise it was a quaint hotel and we did enjoy the stay
“Good price if cleanliness is not your priority”
It was a cute little cottage, but unfortunately it was not the cleanest. There were cobwebs in the corners and dust on all the old decor. I am not one to write reviews but It would have been nice to here what others had to say. It is a very sweet old town with many old buildings so that was not the problem. For the price it was a great sized cottage. Full bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. it could just use a deep cleaning and maybe some updated decor. Also the kitchen table and chairs were quite rickety... I actually cant imagine sitting at that table to eat even if I had to. Sorry for the por review, but I am trying to be honest.
“No Air Conditioning except Office”
My room was 86 degrees when I entered it at 9 at night. There was no in room air conditioning. I could hear the office air conditioner turn on and off through the open window. There was a poorly balanced (noisy when on) ceiling fan. the glass transom allowed too much light in from the hallway - like camping out in a full moon. The lobby is nicely decorated - don't fall for it.
“Stay was OK”
For a building that was built in 1897 as a hotel it was an OK hotel for 2011. Most rooms have in room bathrooms (though a few need to go down the hall) but our room only had a very small shower. The hotel lobby and dining room was furnished with antiques. At night it was quite noisy, due to the old construction you can here noises in the halls and the adjacent rooms. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel has been updated with central air-conditioning (thanks goodness since it was 98 degrees outside). The current owners have let general maintaince go by the wayside, it is looking very "old" outside. I know it is a little thing, but they did not supply a continental breakfast, only a pot of coffee and a package of breakfast rolls from the grocery store. Would I stay there again???, yes probably because it was as close to Yosemite as we could get at the last minute.
“Nice pretty hotel”
Nice and pretty hotel.
“jamestown”
nice cute place. a little far from Yosemite though.
“Good place to stay.”
We recently stayed at this hotel because everything in Yosemite was full. We stayed in the main building and it was good value for the money. The restaurant opposite the hotel turned out to be quite good too. So if you are looking for a place to stay with a local atmosphere this is not bad!
