Location is What it's all about!

Posted May 29, 2015
Pros: Proximity to Yosemite.
Cons: Some updating.
Location: One of the closest hotels to the 140 Yosemite entrance.
The Cedar Lodge may not be brand new, but overall, our room was quite clean. We were in one of the rooms that faced behind and there was a little porch area which was very quiet and nice. We had arrived before check-in time and although rooms were not ready yet, the staff allowed us to put our ice-chest in their walk-in so bears would break into our car in Yosemite.

Basic accommodation not so close to Yosemite

Posted May 27, 2015
Pros: not much
Cons: update decor, replace carpets and wallpaper, hire new chef and improve menu in the restaurant
Location: We booked this because it was the closest accommodation to Yosemite National Park available at the time. It takes at least 25 minutes to drive there.
The name of this hotel is quite misleading - it has nothing to do with cedar or lodge. It is a compound built in the sixties or seventies with multiple rooms in several two storey buildings with a central lobby, restaurant and a swimming pool. The decor is quite dated. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious enough but smelled as if it had only recently been converted from smoking to non-smoking. It was also quite gloomy and stuffy. Since we didn't feel like driving miles to the next restaurant every night we dined on site but the quality of the food there left much to be desired. Though plentiful (all main courses come with soup and salad) is was very bland and unimaginative. The only leafy "green" in the salad bar was iceberg lettuce. The chefs understanding of italian cuisine is very limited. Tomato sauce (labeled "marinara" on the menu) was watery and seemed to come straight from a can of crushed tomatoes with no herbs or other ingredients. Internet access ($9.99 per day) was very spotty and slow. The TV channels were very limited and did not contain any information on e.g. weather or the Yosemite National park.

Kein Wlan

Posted May 26, 2015

Pros: Nice restaurant and bar/grill. Try the Yosemite Sunrise in the bar.
Location: Make sure you walk across the street to the river at night. It is magical.
We enjoyed staying here while exploring Yosemite. The drive to the park was gorgeous and not too far.

The staff were capable. We were told that we would have a 1st floor room. When we arrived there were none left in the rates we were quoted . The desk manager upgraded us to a better room with a jetted tub, wonderful bed, balconey, on the first floor. Nice night!

bad internet connection and food, but if you just want a place to stay during your trip to Yosemite, I would say just pick this up.
