“Expensive camping!!”
We decided to stay in this hotel considering that it was "inside" the park. There is nothing nearby, if you don't want to eat in their restaurant, you have to drive to Oakhurst (20-30min). So one might as well stay in Oakhurst! About the hotel: This hotel is a historic landmark... and so is most of the furniture in the rooms! We got a room with shared bath... turns out that there is 1 bathroom for all the men in the entire building, and one for women, and pretty inconvenient to access. You go there in the freezing cold, and have to wait outside...for who knows how long (they provide you robes though)... get the idea?? There is one toilet on every floor too(thankfully!). The heating in the room cannot be controlled, they check-in material says to open window if it gets too hot... The carpet could not have been dirtier...The rooms don't have intercom/telephones...so good luck if you have questions for the receptionist The hot breakfast was good... but you had to wait in line to get seated which was kind of annoying... but I think it was more so that people tip the waiters before leaving their table! Also surprising was the demographic in the hotel... this being in California, I had expected to see people with many cultural backgrounds... Anyhow, the lady at the check in counter didn't seem very welcoming, infact she seemed surprized/annoyed to see me,,, "how can I help you" is rarely the way people are welcomed at check-in...afterall I did pay for my stay through expedia!!
“I love the Wawona. So many wonderful memories through the years.”
Yosemite is one of my favorite places on earth and a stay at the Wawona makes everything complete. Staying here is like stepping back in time but with modern conveniences. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. If you want all the conveniences, this hotel is not for you but if you want to experience nature in lovely Victorian surroundings, this is the place. No TV and no phone = heaven.
“Areeporn”
beautiful hotel
“Great Trip to Yosemite”
Oue stay was great. The only items I would suggest is bottled water in the rooms and to fix the ice machine.
“Beautiful location!”
Wawona can't be beat for the setting. The rooms are very basic and having the bathroom outside down the hall serving 20+people not good at all. I know they do have some rooms with private baths and i would opt to spend the extra money for that next time. For some reason, i was picturing an inside room but waking up in the middle of the night and having to go outside in very cold weather was not pleasant at all especially when the bathroom closest to us was already occupied! but other than that it's a wonderful place. We enjoyed ourselves very much. The large outside grass area is great to relax in. We saw kids/Dads playing football and having a great time. There are chairs right outside your room you can relax in and more spread out over the property. I highly recommend the place as long as you know you are getting a bare bones hotel room with no soundproofing at all. But the setting makes up for all of that. I'd stay there again (with a private bath :)).
“Back in time”
Great place to stay. The snow fell hard in the night and they had the roads cleared right away. The hotel makes you go back in time ,not all the foo foo but but a great get away.
“Historic & Haunted???”
You could feel the past brush against you in the halls....Could it have been Teddy or Ansel? If the walls could talk....history and time travels back to the beginning of the century! The hotel is alive ....and the breakfast fit for kings!
“A magical place”
The Wawona is a place where you are surrounded by beauty, history and music. Yes, it's an old Hotel, our room had the bathroom down the hall - but the architecture is so charming, and it's in Yosemite! So glad we got a chance to stay there. We swam in the very cool swimming tank, sat on the veranda and gazed at the beautiful trees, listened to Tom Bopp play the piano and tell stories that brought the history of the place to life. The breakfast that came with the room was excellent. Just one warning - if you're having dinner there - it's very pricey. We love the Wawona Hotel.
“wawona stop”
This is a vintage hotel, and the whole experience supports that. The grounds, the rooms, the buildings, even the pool is from another period. We are 50/60 years old, but don't consider ourselves old----and very much liked this place. There is live piano entertainment in the evenings, it's all old stuff-and the folks who sit and listen are too-but this adds to the character of the hotel. Cocktails are available while listening to this memorabilia, or you can enjoy the awesome deck/porch in comfortable wicker while slipping wine-or throwing back a shot or two-they have a full bar. The dinner here was quite expensive and mediocre, Wouldn't reccommend, but definately do breakfast!
“Wawona Bliss”
Built in the late 1800s, this hotel retains all of the charm from it's earliest days of operation. No telephones or televisions in the period-decorated rooms (and virtually no cell service throughout the entire Yosemite Valley) made for a wonderful weekend away from the noise and distractions of our daily lives. Evenings are highlighted by Mr. Bopp's piano by the fireside while sipping on warm cocoa or cocktails of your choice. The menu of the dining room has plenty to choose from, and the service and food is excellent. The hotel staff are well versed in the local area and have many great suggestions for daily excursions.
