Could've been a lot better

Posted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: Location. That's it. Price was okay for funky.
Cons: see experience above..
The Lodge has a great location and great potential but it needs some TLC. I had misgivings booking our stay here since I had read yelp, a number of them quite negative. Right away, I couldn't help noticing the flaws: the stains on the sofa cushions, cigarette burns in the chairs, mildewy shower curtain, a lamp that wouldn't work, flickering TV's. I had to call the front office for the spoons and cups that were absent from the kitchenette. But we got used to it over our six day stay. The location was great..a short drive into Yosemite. The price was decent. So, why doesn't the management clean it up, do upgrades like La Quinta has done, put in newer TV's, install sturdy screens at the sliding doors to keep out the darned raccoons that come in your room, and how about a DVD player in the room? I think I get why. It's because people are willing to put up with a funky place to be near the park. Would I stay there again? Nope, nor can i recommend it. I will pay more to have a more pleasant experience.

Nice hotel on the river

Posted Nov 10, 2014
Pros: Location, pet friendly, kitchenette
Cons: Restaurant food and service, include free wifi like every other hotel these days
Location: Yosemite Park
Stayed for 4 nights while hiking in Yosemite Park. Convenient location near park entrance. Nice clean rooms on the Merced River. Loved sitting outside on the patio listening to the river after hiking all day. Nice to have a kitchenette in the room as there are only a couple of restaurants to choose from. The food at the restaurant on site is not great, and the service is slow. Pet friendly, with a reasonable fee. They charge a ridiculous fee for wifi. but that actually gave us a great excuse to be off the grid for a few days. Overall, we had a good experience and would stay again!

Crucial features not given much importance

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: It is situated very close to the entrance. The locale and surroundings are pretty.
Cons: Provide showers with flow rate control. Get rid of annoying and noisy recoiling shotgun flush toilets.
Location: Yosemite national park is well known to most people and there is plenty of info on the web.
Most important and most used part of any accomodation is the bathroom. This was not very good considering the rental cost. The shower did not have flow control and the flow was very poor. Even after 15 mins the shower was not satisfactory. The shotgun toilet made loud noises and did not even clean well even after three flushes. We had to use water from faucet to flush out properly. The shotgun recoil was very annoying and almost hurting. It can be scary to push the flush handle. Considering the dry weather they did not provide moisturizers which probably costs less than a quarter. Some people at the front desk did their job like automatons without even a friendly smile or greeting.

Good hotel close to Yosemite

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: Quiet but very comfortable. Good location.
Cons: The heating/cooling unit would not work. Maintenance person could not repair it and so we remained hot at night.
Location: Yosemite, hiking, fishing
Great price compared to park prices. Good food - chicken Marsala was especially good.

Good location but everything else disappointing

Posted Oct 31, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Most things - see above. In addition the restaurant was full and the pizza that we had in the bar was pretty horrible
Location: Yosemite park is wonderful
Room very shabby with a filthy carpet and light switches that didn't work, a shower that leaked badly and a lack of kitchen items, e.g. a room for 2 with only 1 wine glass. Asked for another but was told that they only had a tumbler. Poor value for money. Good location but everything else not good enough.

Decent hotel, well located for Yosemite Valley

Posted Oct 29, 2014
Pros: Convenience of location for Yosemite
Cons: Modernise the rooms (decor, TVs, furnishing, bathrooms)
Location: Yosemite!
This is a decent, but quite basic, hotel which is extremely well located for Yosemite NP (specifically Yosemite Valley) as it is just a few minutes drive from the park entrance. That is the primary selling point. The hotel itself is not the newest and not the fanciest, but it is good value for money as it is comfortable enough and clean. Our room had a small kitchenette attached which is convenient (microwave, fridge, sink). The decor throughout is dated and well used, but perfectly clean and functional. There are multiple buildings and each has free parking outside. There are several swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) and a mini market shop on site. As well as 2 dinner options - a pizza place and a sit down restaurant. We stayed for 2 nights and ate at the restaurant on both nights. We didn't have high expectations - but we were very impressed both times. Good quality food and service. Highly recommended (although it can take ages to get a table at busy times). If you are going in/out of Yosemite then this is an ideal stopping place. Just don't expect there to be much around - as there isn't much other than a gas station nearby!
