• Zafra Is located in a low Extremadura's favored place, almost half way between Emérita, which was the capital of the Roman Lusitania province (Mérida), and the Bética Hispalis's Roman province (Seville).This important population of Estremadura, with over 15,000 inhabitants, retrieved historic and strategic relevance during Arab domination, times these in which it was known with the names of Safra and Cafra, getting finally to the present-day name of Zafra.Zafra is located in the borderline that was segmenting the taifa's kingdoms of Seville and Badajoz, in 1030 a castle with defensive aims was built in Castelar Mountain Range, which was already recognized by the Hispanic Moslem geographer Al-Bakrí in 1094 with the name of Sajra Abi Hassán. At the end of 19th century, in 1882, King Alfonso XII gave Zafra the title of City, and since 1965 awards the name of National Historical Set.
