Cute, no frills guesthouse

Posted Feb 15, 2015 on Hotels
Kilima Kidogo is a cute beach rustic bungalow. It's not a 5 start resort but it is a great guesthouse with a fabulous owner, Dina, who is more concerned about you having a great vacation than you yourself are! From my understanding it has just been rebuilt after a fire and so there are some tweaks that are still required (my toilet didn't flush every time but that doesn't bother me). The wifi is spotty but I think that is the same everywhere in the area. Only thing I would recommend improvement on is having some sort of barricade between the ocean and the outdoor restaurant. As beautiful as it is, the amount of wind kicks up a lot of sand into your face and food.

Thank you Akruti for your comments. Thank you to all our first guests that had to help us to identify all the building problems and we have this now all sorted out. Unfortunately Zanzibar also have 4 seasons like any where else in the world. Twise a year (2 months out the 12th months) we have wind to entertain all the Kite surfers. We have put curtains in the Restaurant and bar to make sure the guests do not eat sand. This is now pleasant . Thank you Akruti for your advise.

Entspannende Tage

Posted Jan 23, 2015 on Hotels

Thank you for your comment. It is now 6 months later since our re opening of the new guest house. Renovations are now completed and all systems in place. It is important to guests to know that our lagoon is a natural lagoon and sea currents all depend on the high and low tide and the Lunar cycle. This lagoon is one of the best in the world. Just follow the tides.

Beautiful facilities, great food, awesome owner

Posted Jan 13, 2015
Pros: Facilities, food, owner.
Across-the-board-5s aren't something I give out easily, but for this wonderful Zanzibar spot, it's a no-brainer. The hotel is beautifully designed, the main foyer opens up to a nice pool. In Paje, the tides recede a long ways, so the pool is a great option for when the water's out too far to swim. The place is perfect for a relaxing beach vacation. The owner, Dina, makes the hotel a cut above. Like host at a classic & classy establishment, she takes true care in her facilities and her guests' experience. She engaged with every patron I saw, and took time to help with any travel, food or accommodation questions people had. This level of hospitality is rare and special. The food and drinks are excellent. The host's special (coconut-crusted fish) was one of the best meals I had during 5 weeks in Africa. The rooms are clean, with big beautiful beds and nice bathrooms. Good hot water. Prices were reasonable for nice facilities. The location in Paje is relatively good, a little South of town, but a nice beach walk or quick cab ride to other hotels or bars. Paje itself is a bit isolated, and there's not much to do. Kite surfing seemed popular, but nobody looked to be enjoying themselves, very serious faces. I preferred relaxing on the beach, swimming, and eating seafood for a couple of days, which this spot is perfect for. If you want to go to Paje and experience Zanzibari relaxation, Kilima Kidogo is an ideal hotel.

From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were greeted and treated like personal friends. The beach, the food, the room, the pool, and the activities were all top notch. I hope to return someday!

Pros: The location being right on the beach, the food, The lovely owner & the friendly helpful staff.
Cons: Far from Stone Town taxi so the taxi costs were quite expensive. Had to ask for hand soap for our room - which was given to us immediately.
Location: Private Guest Lodge on the beach with own new private swimming pool. Beautiful setting great place for a honeymoon.
Professionally run - fabulous breakfasts & suppers. Relaxing & tranquil. Good Afrikaans spoken. The owner is lovely and welcoming. Great staff.
