Could be anywhere

Posted Nov 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel is beautiful and clean and modern. The modern sculptures throughout give it a feel of a gallery at times. The complex is mostly a $30-40 cab ride away from central Zurich. While there is a shuttle bus, it is not really promoted. Being captive makes this hotel expensive which should be expected. However 5SF for 1 egg and 12CHF for 2 eggs for breakfast for example is embarrassingly high. Other services are also unapproachable.

Dear Guest Many thanks for your recent stay at the Dolder Grand and your valuable remarks. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated the (interior) design of our hotel and hope that the remarkable art collection contributed to a positive overall impression. In terms of your comment concerning the accessibility of the hotel, it is worth adding that a Hotel shuttle bus service runs regularly during the day, taking guests to the city centre free of charge. Furthermore, the Dolder Grand can be reached easily and in an inexpensive way by using public transport. At breakfast in our Garden Restaurant, we serve various egg dishes as, for example, boiled eggs (CHF 4.00) or fried eggs with different garnishes (CHF 12.00). We apologize for the incomplete pricing information during your visit and hope that you were still able to enjoy your start into the day. We would be delighted to welcoming you back to the Dolder Grand in the near future in order to have the opportunity of convincing you without compromises soon. Until then we wish you all the best. Yours sincerely Mark Jacob Managing Director

Superb Hotel. Outstanding Service

Posted Oct 10, 2013
Pros: Service, food and beautiful ambience and surroundings.
This is a Hotel which is perfect for a relaxed stay. It is away from the main town(though a shuttle runs every hour till 6 pm), which would make it inconvenient if you were there on work. The food at the restaurants is outstanding. The service is impeccable.

Longing for the past..

Posted Jul 15, 2013
Pros: The view from my room.
Cons: The disappearance of the view from the terrace.
Location: It's superb for a walk around the nearby forest and views of Zurich, the Alps and the lake. It's a short cog-wheel tram down the hill to town.
I used to lunch and /or stay at the Dolder Grand when it was "grand." It was "renovated" (re-modelled) a few years ago - and aimed at people who like cookie cutter luxury of the bling bling kind. It used to be a truly grand oasis of peace, taste and manners. It is still peaceful, but it seems that this is because it does not seem to attract many people. Lunch on the terrace used to have a grand view - and a grand old maitre d'hotel - who understood exactly how Dover Sole should be boned and served intact, and why a flinty chablis mattered. The Dolder Grand is still grand, but is "grandstanding" and not "grandiose." I'll keep it as a memory, but not a destination.
